The Tea – First Edition

#weeklyseries #weeklyrant #thoughts #series

It turns out I have a lot to say. This probably doesn’t shock some who know me but may surprise others. I am, a still waters run deep kinda person, but get me talking on a subject that I am passionate about and I can go all day. Brutally honest and direct are two things I hear often about myself. Actually, I really try to be aware of the words I choose because I rarely mean things as harsh as they come out. This is definitely an introvert problem. But back to the topic at hand….

Introducing The Tea – a weekly (hopefully) post sharing my thoughts on current happenings and weekend sales. Why The Tea? Well, tea is a slang word for gossip or information and I have so much to share with you. It is also my go to drink. Actually, it is my only drink these days (except water) after giving up alcohol 26 years ago and recently giving up milk. I love milk, my skin just doesn’t love it. My caffeine source is iced tea and I drink a lot of it! So without further ado…..The Tea!

Elmo, Ellen and Almost Famous

Elmo and friends took on addiction in the most fabulous Sesame Street way this week. The iconic show added a new character whose mom is struggling with addiction. As our country struggles with the growing opioid crisis, it is important to remember addicts are real people: mothers, fathers, children, friends and coworkers. Those children directly affected by their parents addiction need love and support from their community and those closest around them. Bravo! Sesame Street for portraying real life and tackling hard subjects. Check out the sketch for yourself here.

Ellen took flack this week for sitting with President G.W. Bush while watching a Cowboys game. Then her response garnered even more criticism. I, for one, thought her response was spot on. Watch for yourself. It really isn’t that hard to be kind to everyone. If we all spent time building bridges instead of building walls, our world would be a much better place. And while I am at it – it is really easy to judge from behind a computer screen. If you took a moment and really evaluated what you would do, (insert any situation you are about to judge) you likely would find, you would react the same way.

Cameron (my DD not the writer) and I went to see Almost Famous at the Old Globe. It was so nice to spend some quality time with my girl outside the stress of travel and competition. The musical adaptation of Cameron Crowe’s award winning movie is an exciting ride through the 1970’s music scene as seen by a 15 year old writer. I loved the movie and I was a bit worried a musical adaptation would somehow miss the mood of motion picture. Boy was I wrong! The play captures the time and feel perfectly. The music is great and the performances are amazing.  I mean Ah-mazing! If you get a chance, go see this play.

Stay Gold, PonyBoy! – After years of resisting the gold trend, I finally succumbed to its pressure. What really got me is the gold chain necklace trend.  Dainty necklaces look great in both gold or silver but a big chain necklace just has to be in gold. For the time being I am going gold. Here are the pieces I am coveting right now.

  • Macy’s – Take 20% off with code: SAVE now through 10/14. Exclusions apply.

  • Michael Kors – Up to 50% off selected styles through 10/24. Sale includes my favorite slouchy boots, the Avery Suede Boot. I picked them up last year and absolutely love these boots. On sale for $129!

  • Bloomingdale’s Friend’s & Family is going on with up to 25% off until 10/14. How pretty is this Loeffler Randall Satchel? The Sam Edelman Winona Bootie is included in the sale.
