The Perfect Unique Gift Idea
Recently, I am obsessed with finding a good leather backpack. I know what you’re thinking, “She gets obsessed with a lot of things.” Well. That is very true. I kinda obsess about something until I find the perfect one, then I move on to obsessing about something else. Don’t we all do that? Or is it just me? So at the moment, I am obsessed with backpacks.
During my moments contemplating the perfect one, I realized that a backpack might just make the perfect Dad & Grad gift. Actually, it might just be the perfect gift for everyone. Here is my thinking:
- Dad’s are known for carrying all the stuff. When we travel Kent’s backpack is the first to be loaded with anything heavy and all of the snacks. Every dad deserves a good bag to haul all the things. In the case, of my husband, if I hadn’t given him a quality backpack to use, then he would be schlepping around with his camping backpack or one he received at a conference covered with logos. Now, my challenge is to keep him from using the “good” backpack for camping or fishing. This is the same story with designer jeans. I know you all know what I am talking about.
- Backpacks are the perfect gift for the recent graduate. If graduating and heading off into the work force, a backpack is a modern day briefcase. It can double as an overnight bag and as the perfect carryon for travel. After years of college scrimping, the graduate will likely not yet invested in a quality backpack and will appreciate this fine gift. If graduating from high school then sending them off to college with a fresh new backpack is perfect.
- Mom’s absolutely need a stylish, quality backpack. If the mom has small kids, backpacks make a perfect stylish diaper bags. One that doesn’t scream “diaper bag here”. As a mom of teens, I know you never really stop carrying everyone else’s stuff. From their jackets to iPads, the stuff usually ends up in my bag.
- Honestly, is there anyone who couldn’t use a stylish backpack? They are the most functional of bags. Both men and women can use them and it is an item a person rarely buys for themselves.
Why a Backpack?
In my recent post about Carryon Essentials, I shared that a backpack is often my go to carryon. I love a backpack for the hands free use it provides. Right now, I am using the anello backpack that I saw on all the stylish Asian women in Paris. It is relatively inexpensive and has a great hinged opening that allows for packing lots of stuff. But recently I started to covet a quality leather bag or possibly even a designer backpack. You know I love my designer bags. I contemplated a LV carry all but they just aren’t practical as a carryon. I decided I wanted to invest in a stylish, statement backpack.
The thing is, if you buy the very best backpack you can afford, chances are you won’t need to buy one again for years. A good quality leather bag will last you forever. That is why a backpack is such a great gift. Like I said, I cannot think of anyone who wouldn’t appreciate a nice leather backpack.
My Pick
The bag I chose is the Madewell Transport Rucksack in black leather. At $198, it is a fabulous price for this quality, leather backpack. If you are familiar with Madewell Transport Tote, the backpack is made from the same leather. It ages magnificently and will last forever. I also seriously considered the Tumi Carson Voyager Backpack. Tumi is known for its quality and durable luggage.
So if you have a dad or grad or really anyone on your gift list season, consider a backpack as the one gift they all will love. With so many styles and prices, you can find the perfect gift for anyone on your list. Below are my favorites. The selection covers all price points and styles. I tried to stick to backpacks that can carry a laptop and other items all together. I find a medium to large bag they most functional.
