Styling an Oversized White Shirt
Are you a crisp white shirt kinda person? I am really not. I prefer a little drape to my fabrics. But, this ruched white shirt from Athleta caught my eye and I decided to give it a try. I am a sucker for cool details on clothing like ruching or lacing. I prefer these details in a cool, edgy way instead of an overtly sexy way. Do you know what I mean? So I decided to give the shirt a try. Here are some fresh ways to wear an oversized, white button down shirt.

All public places seem to way over air-condition and restaurants, theatres and stores are freezing in the summer. I wish they would just stick with the energy efficient guidelines and set their thermostat to 72 regardless of the weather.

I have rocked mine every summer for years. My daughter, thinks they never came back in. She is mourning the change in uniform policy at her school away from skirts to Bermuda shorts. The teen girls are not happy! But they are perfect for me. They are like a low commitment short. You don’t have to show off too much leg if you don’t want too. Mine are from 7 for All Mankind but these Paige are almost identical. Shoes are Golden Goose and they are now back in stock!
- White Top with Denim Car Coat and Black Pants – I love these Everlane Relaxed Chinos. They are beyond comfortable and only $58. I added my Madewell Selvedge Denim Chore Coat which is on sale but only a few sizes left. My look feels very Santa Barbara mom from the 80’s. I look ready for the farmer’s market.
- White Shirt Over a Denim Jumpsuit – This Paige denim dark chambray jumpsuit is sleeveless. It has got to be downright hot for me to wear a sleeveless top. Honestly, most summer days in San Diego are pretty mild. The downright hot days come in Sept, Oct and Nov. I added the white top over it for a spring look. Knot the ends of the shirt for a little something different. The jumpsuit is from a few years ago but this one is similar and with a modern wide leg. My shoes are the Dr. Martens Ryker sandal and I know I will be wearing them all summer long.
- White Shirt Over a Dress – This is another Paige find from a few years ago. Like I said, I am a sucker for lace up detail or ruching. Here I put them both together. Add some cute espadrilles mine are Gucci Supreme Espadrille and you are summer ready.
They key to an oversized white shirt that isn’t too conservative or boring is to look for one with some type of fun details. My shirt from Athleta is sold out but I love the ruched detail on the arm.
