What to Buy Now ~ July Edition

I am constantly shopping and though I will say it is for my blog, the reality is, I have always been a shopper. Shopping is relaxing and I enjoy looking at all the pretty things. July is the biggest month of all for shopping. The Nordstrom Anniversary sale is every year in July and I try and save up and wait to spend my money there. It is getting more and more difficult as other stores, in attempt to compete with Nordstrom, have started adding some fabulous sales in late June and early July. For example, the Bloomingdale’s Buy More, Save More is going on now and you can save up to 30% on qualifying items.

All good intentions went by the way-side because I found several things I really couldn’t live without this month. Ok! I could live without them but I really, really wanted them and I think you should buy them too!

Boho Top, Denim Shorts and Some Darn Comfy Shoes!

  • I picked up this Miranda Peasant Top from Velvet at Bloomingdale’s recently. It is so breezy and light and absolutely perfect for summer. The picture doesn’t really show it well but the stripes include a metallic thread which just makes this top next level. It is so pretty and can be easily dressed up or worn casually. I am wearing a large which I generally take in most Velvet brand items as I find them otherwise tight in the chest.
  • I am wearing with the AG Nikki Shorts Deconstructed.  These are my all time favorite summer shorts. They are the perfect, universally flattering length. I bought them last year but they are on sale for 25% off + the Buy More, Save more discount of up to 30%. I promise you won’t be disappointed in these shorts. They are so comfortable and have mid-rise which for me is perfect. You can find my other short picks here.
  • Last year, The Mom Edit recommended the Ugg Kamile Sandals. I opted for another pair and this year I went back and picked up the UGG Sandal in tan and black. Thanks to a memory foam insert, these babies are beyond comfortable. Why? Oh, why, didn’t I pick them up earlier? I could have been walking on air for so much longer! Oh well, I have them now and thankfully so, since I was stung by a Sting Ray in La Paz and cannot wear sneaker without pain likely until the wound heals. If you struggle to find comfortable sandals look no further. These are for you. They were comfy from the first wear and I reach for them constantly.

Summer Blazer

I have been obsessed with finding a tan blazer since I read an article on WhoWhatWear. The Mom Edit and WhoWhatWear are two fashion blogs, I follow religiously. I am a huge fan of Shana who started TME and her style mirrors my own pretty closely except for the fact she is petite and significantly younger. Now that her company has grown, she doesn’t write as many articles and I miss her advice. Her other editors are great and I highly recommend you check out the TME blog.   WWW is my other fashion blog go to. They are a prolific web site with all sorts of fabulous fashion and celebrity style. Their editors cover fashion’s cutting edge and I am constantly inspired by their recommendations.

My goal was to find a tan blazer that didn’t break the bank. I ended up choosing this Long and Lean Linen-Cotton Blazer from Banana Republic. It retails for $179 but you can always pick stuff up at BR on sale. Recently, they offered 40% your purchase and I swooped it up. I usually go up one size in blazers because I like an oversized fit. This blazer runs small and I had to go up two sizes to get a more traditional blazer fit(see fit below). If you wan’t oversized you will need to size up quite a bit.  I am wearing with another of my current picks the Madewell Whisper Cotton Tank Top and the 7 for All Mankind shorts.

If You Don’t Have This Top, You are Missing Out!

Honestly, there is not a single item of clothing I wear more often during the summer than the Madewell Whisper Cotton Tank Top. I have it in multiple colors and stripes. The cut is universally flattering and works perfectly under a blazer (see above) or on its own. The v-neck is perfect for us busty gals and is definitely not too revealing. Madewell also makes this tee in short sleeved, long sleeved and round neck. They wash fabulously and pack easily. I am constantly stuffing the extra room in my suitcase with these tees just in case and I end up wearing them all the time. I am wearing a medium.

Going and Almost Gone

Since I decided to add this to my list, this Everlane The Linen Picnic Top has almost sold out. ?  I am really hoping for a restock soon. Initially, I purchased in my normal size 8 but it was definitely too tight in the bust so I returned for the size 10. I love this top so much I want to purchase it in black as well but they are currently sold out of my size. The linen is high quality and the white is not super see through. You can dress this top up with a skirt or wear it casually with shorts. You all know, I love Everlane for their high quality products, ethically sourcing and transparent pricing. This top is no exception. It definitely looks much more expensive than its $58 price tag.

Summer Denim & a Good Wedge

It doesn’t matter what time of year, I am all about a good pair of jeans. This season I fell in love with the 90’s denim trend and that helped me step out of my skinny jeans routine. I won’t say rut because I love skinny jeans and they will always be my go to style but after years of only skinny jeans, I’m ready to branch out. On a whim, I picked up the AG Angel Flare Jeans from Nordstrom (see them above) and they are a perfect addition to my summer wardrobe. They are light weight and slightly distressed.

A good flare jean lends itself to heeled sandals so well. I am wearing Madewell Stacey Wedge Mule which are almost sold out but there are so many great wedge sandal options. The Naturalizer Zaya Wedge are almost identical to the Madewell one’s and they have fabulous reviews and come in a delicate, pretty pink as well as black and bronze (kinda gold/kinda silver) color. I am tempted to pick them up too. Wedge heels are beyond comfortable. A little tip for breaking them in or any shoe really, is too wear your new shoes around the house with socks. Good leather shoes will stretch out just enough to give you the room needed to be comfortable. Below are some additional wedges I found on the market now.

And a Jumpsuit

My dad used to wear this 70’s jumpsuit around the house. It looked like a gas station attendant’s uniform but he was my hero and I knew he was home for the day when he slipped that bad boy on. Fast forward to the 80’s and I had the best white jumpsuit, big shoulder pads, cinched waist and pleated pants. I was all sorts of valley girl fabulous. My obsession with a jumpsuit goes way back. Being a pants loving girl, a jumpsuit is the perfect alternative to a dress.

Of course, jumpsuits are hot right now and I had my eye on this particular army green, utility jumpsuit from Citizen of Humanity. It finally went on sale and I snapped it up. The fabric is pretty thick so I will be saving this for fall. I tried both the Medium and the Large and because I am tall, the large was a better fit in length. I could definitely have gone with a medium size wise but the length was just a bit short for me. This jumpsuit is on sale at a few different retailers. I will link them in the widget below as well as a few other utility jumpsuits that are similar. The only drawback to this jumpsuit is I wish it had pockets but the sale price allows me to overlook this small detail and enjoy my new outfit.

Anniversary Sale Up Next!

Next up, the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. I won’t be able to pre-shop the sale in store until the 15th because I will be in Arkansas for a tournament with my daughter. But, I will have access to the sale online early and will post my online picks as soon as possible. I am planning the next installment of Dressing Room Diaries from the Anniversary sale by the 16th.

What is on your Anniversary Sale wish list? I am hoping to find a pair of tall boots in tan or white with a walkable heel. I am all about the leather this year. Nordstrom always has some great leather pieces but this year I am really hoping for some leather joggers. Overall, I am looking for statement pieces to add to my wardrobe to level up my current basics. Maybe a smart looking blazer or coat, a duster and some snake print something. As usual, I love to stock up on Zella work out wear, Nike brand and  a few new sweaters for the season.

I hope you check back for my Anniversary Sale reviews and recommendations. As always, you can follow me on Instagram to see my daily outfits and happenings or on Pinterest where I pin all the things that inspire me from outfit to animal, books to bedrooms. Happy shopping Dahlias!
