This year got off to a slow start, and then February hit with a bang. Spring is on the horizon, or so I keep dreaming. Punxsutawney Phil assured us that we are headed for an early spring. He is as right as any rodent plucked from his home would be. But I’m ready for it. Our winter has been relatively mild with very little rain but some pretty, cold temperatures (yes, it is relative). This winter, I’ve found myself wearing a few items on repeat not only because they are perfect for variable temperatures but because they are comfortable and stylish.
With a closet full of clothes, these are the eight items I keep reaching for over and over again. I dare say they have become part of my winter uniform. – gasp, sharp inhale – A uniform is usually a dirty word to fashion girls everywhere and my kids who are stuck wearing one for school every day.

The Eight Items I’m Wearing on Repeat This Winter
1. Leather Jacket
This winter, I decided it was time for a leather jacket upgrade. After years of use, my Madewell leather jacket shows some signs of wear. I decided to hand it down to my darling daughter, who is beyond pleased to wear my “vintage” jacket. My goal was to find a leather jacket that would work well for a CA winter. The Madewell is a bit light unless you layer a sweater underneath. I ultimately decided to purchase the IRO Han Leather Jacket during Shopbop’s Buy More, Save More sale.
I’m so glad I did. The jacket has a thicker lining that provides extra warmth, and the leather is buttery soft. The jacket runs pretty small, but the 44 fits perfectly. The sleeves are rather tight, but I am hoping they will stretch. I can still layer a moderate weight sweater underneath.
Of course, while shopping for leather jackets, Madewell released my leather jacket in the amazing Burnt Sienna color. The color is definitely on point for winter and will work all through summer. I often get funny about wearing black leather in summer because it just feels too heavy despite how cold it can be in June. Am I the only one? So, I picked it up too.
I wear both jackets on repeat, basically swapping between the two depending on my outfits. Both work perfectly with all my wardrobe items, from jeans to dresses.
2. Free People Tunics
The Free People tunics are a favorite of the Instagram Influencers and rightfully so. They are perfectly oversized and casual. I have both the Easy Street Tunic, which is a crew neck with a slightly boxy cut and the Softly Structured Tunic, which has a turtle neck and long and straight cut.
I wear these tunics with just about everything from jeans to my beloved leggings to cargo pants. Both sweaters aren’t bulky so you can easily layer a coat over them for colder days. The sweaters come in multiple colors, and I bought two of each. I also gave a black and burgundy Easy Street tunic to my daughter for Xmas, and she loves them as much as I do.
3. Moussy Vintage Denim
Thanks to Shopbop’s fabulous sales, I picked up these Moussy Vintage jeans to try and instantly fell in love. Moussy Vintage is a Japanese denim brand with vintage-like washes and just a hint of stretch. I’m wearing the Vienna Tapered Jeans in size 30. The Vienna is a perfect mid-rise jean. Thank goodness! I am so sick of high rise jeans! Seriously, jeans companies need to think of us short-waisted girls.
I find they run a bit small. I tried the 29 which fit ok, but as I get older, I prefer my denim to be not so tight. These jeans don’t stretch over time. Moussy Vintage has amazing washes on all of their jeans. I can’t wait to pick up another pair. Even though I am wearing the heck out of these this winter, I originally envisioned them as summer jeans. So, they may make my summer round-up of most worn items too.
4. rag & bone Shawn Chelsia Boots
The moment I laid eyes on these boots, I knew they had to be mine. They are so…me! Luckily, they are crazy comfortable and go with everything. They are perfect for when I want a little something more than sneakers. I’ve honestly been wearing the heck out of these boots all winter long.
If you follow my Insta-stories, you will see them featured often in my #ootdfashion. rag & bone is one of my go-to fashion brands. Their mix of classic styling with a serious edge matches my style to a tee. The Shawn Chelsia Boots are a perfect example of that marriage. They are a traditional Chelsea style with a modern lug sole and a relaxed pull-on style.
5. J.Crew Cashmere Crew
At only $98, the J.Crew Cashmere Crew is a steal! This lightweight cashmere crew is perfect for everything. I will be wearing this sweater long into spring. J.Crew has restocked several new colors for spring, and all of the winter colors are on sale (if you can find your size).
I love this sweater so much I wrote a whole post on how I wear the Cashmere Crew. Your closet needs this sweater. For spring, the neon citron feels fresh.
6. Golden Goose Sneakers
If you follow along regularly, you know I am sneaker obsessed! Seriously O.B.S.E.S.S.E.D! My addiction goes back several years when I suffered from Plantar Fasciitis while training for a half marathon. My doctor told me to give up shoes that don’t offer support. Since it was almost summer, that meant no flip flops (which is sacrilege in CA) and no sandals (except Birkenstocks which I couldn’t manage. This was long before Birkenstocks became fashion again). My only option was fashion sneakers and a couple of pairs of only, mildly ugly Mephisto sandals.
I started collecting sneakers then and have been wearing them ever since. I can wear them with just about everything. After eyeing a few pairs of Golden Goose sneakers on Instagram, I decided I needed a pair myself. I mean needed. Really! I do. Now, I have quite a collection.
My favorite style is the Superstar, and my exact pair is the Leopard Star from Farfetch. Many companies offer Golden Goose exclusives. So if you are looking for a pair Google, Golden Goose to check out the complete selection. Another helpful hint is if you see a pair you want in your size, snap it up. Golden Goose sell out quickly, and some styles don’t restock, others you will need to stalk to buy. I’ve linked what I think are the most wearable styles below.
7. AG Legging Ankle Skinny Jeans
I wear the AG Legging Ankle Skinny more than any other pair of jeans in my closet. I find myself reaching for them time and time again. They are consistently comfortable even after sitting on a plane for six hours or stuffing myself with a bowl of pasta. Their comfort is due to the right amount of stretch, which also makes them perfect for wearing with tall boots. AG makes these jeans in new washes every season. This year, I hope to pick up a lighter wash to give the darker wash a break.
The denim is lightweight, so I wear these all through summer but not so light that I have to skip them during the winter. They are, by far, my favorite pairs of jeans. This year they bypassed my beloved rag & bone Dre’s to reach the top spot! If you are thinking, but aren’t skinny jeans out of style? My answer is skinny jeans will never go out of style. Sure other cuts are currently trending, but you can never go wrong with a good pair of skinny jeans, and the AG’s are good!
8. Grayson Hero Button-Up Shirt
A recent find, the Grayson Hero Button-Up shirt has quickly become one of the go-to items in my closet. With styling designed by a woman for women, classic and modern prints, and super-soft fabrics, a Grayson shirt is definitely worth the investment. You can check out my full post on this fabulous shirt brand here.
BTW – I know the price tag seems steep, but the shirts are worth it. You can also find the brand often on sale at Anthropologie, Nordstrom or Bloomingdale’s.
Every morning I step into my ample closet to get dressed and find myself reaching for these same items over and over. They are my ride or die winter items. The ones I pack when I am traveling and the ones with the lowest cost per wear. Because “uniform” is kinda an ugly word in our house, I will stop short of calling them my winter uniform. These items are just the pieces that I always feel good wearing. The items that wear well, wash well and look good. What pieces in your closet do you wear all winter? Is it very SoCal of me to not include a winter coat? You can check my post on The Coats You Need in Your Closet if you need some inspiration.
