One Almost Grown
My daughter is off on her Jr. retreat this week. Her absence hit me harder than usual. She has been away from home before but somehow I miss her more this time. Her eventual departure for college is looming ever closer and I suspect it has me a bit rattled. On the one hand, I am beyond excited to see where she goes in life but I am in disbelief at how quickly her childhood as flown by. I am plagued by doubts of did I prepare her properly.
Recently my friend Anne, a veteran college student mom, recommended this list of 33 Life Skills Your Kid Needs to Be an Adult. I would say we are about 65% there. Good news is my DD is pretty resourceful but I only have 1.5 years left to get her ready and face my life with her off at college.
One in a Man’s Body
Halloween is upon us and as my 14 year old, man-sized child contemplates his social options for the evening, I hope he chooses trick-o-treating over the myriad of other potentially dangerous choices. However, I am well aware his 6’1″ frame may be greeted with distain and possible outright hostility at many of the doors he visits. Even in his oversized body, he is still just a child at heart. The rest of us will be doing scare duty in my friend’s haunted house. The theme is IT and I may scare myself!
