It has been a quick minute since my last, The Tea. December was a whirlwind, and I still feel a bit dizzy. Have you recovered yet? My DD birthday is January 15th, and it always feels like the last holiday hoorah until I hibernate until Easter. I might poke my head out for a chocolate Valentine, but generally, I am in need of a serious holiday detox.
2020 has arrived, and despite all the pre-conceived notions of what 2020 would look like (hello! flying cars), it feels about the same as any other year. One thing they didn’t predict is the need to write out completely 2020 instead of using the 20. I guess flying cars are far more exciting to think of than potential fraud.
Do you make New Year’s resolutions? I usually don’t, but this year in the spirit of the symmetry of 2020, I made a list of 20 Things to Try in 2020. Give it a look if you want some inspiration for your resolutions.

January Sales Spotlight
- January is a great time to pick up winter pieces on sale. Here is a list of 5 Coats You Need in Your Closet – All on Sale. Of course, items go fast, so shop early.
- Boots are another great thing to pick up on sale in January. I am a huge fan of Frye Boots. They fit right every time and are always comfortable.
- If you are in the market for fine jewelry January is the best month to buy. Retailers like Bloomingdale’s, Nordstrom, and Macy’s offer their most significant discounts on Jewelry after the holidays.
- I’ve wanted to purchase flannel sheets for our bed. January is an excellent time for buying linens. I am a big fan of The Company Store. They are having their annual White Sale with up to 20% off.
Things to Munch On
- It seems like finally, the rest of the world has woken up to the horrible devastation in Australia caused by the wildfires. My heart hurts thinking of the nearly a billion animals who have lost their lives. It is truly unimaginable. If you want to donate to help those affected by the fires, check out this article by The New York Times.
- The fact that the size and devastation of the fires are caused by climate change is disturbing. If you still need evidence that climate change is real, check out this video by Bill Nye, The Science Guy.
- If you still aren’t convinced, maybe just give it the benefit of the doubt. What harm will it do to support action to curb global warming? The evidence is pretty clear; it will help.
- Ok! I’m stepping off my pedestal. I can’t guarantee I won’t climb back on from time to time, especially when it involves animals.
The Golden Globes
- On a completely different note – did you watch the Golden Globes? I am a big fan of awards shows primarily because of the fashion. There were so many amazing looks.
- My favorite dresses were Scarlett Johanson’s red Vera Wang that edged back to old Hollywood glamour. Laura Dern’s Saint Laurent boho gown that fit her personality to a tee. Charlize Theron’s Haute Couture Dior was Greecian goddess perfection, and my favorite of the night was Ana de Armas’ Ralph & Russo blue sequin ball gown. She was truly stunning.
- Some serious misses were J.Lo in a dress that looked like Xmas wrapping paper remnants, Jodie Comer in her Gumby dress, and Michelle Williams in her orange tied napkin, gown. But props to Michelle Williams’s speech. Love her activism.
- Honorable mention to all the women who opted for pantsuits. You are my kind of people. I especially liked Phoebe Waller Bridge’s Ralph & Russo pantsuit, but I could have done without the distracting bow on the shoulder.
