The Tea 08.14.20

The Tea a Weekly Series News Happenings and Sales

With just about everything else in 2020, I have gone off the rails. I guess that is a bit dramatic, but it is honest. Anxiety has been part of my life as long as I can remember. Growing up in the ’70s, there wasn’t a name for it. The feeling of constant stress like there is loud music playing in the background, and all you want is silence.

It has taken me years, a bout of depression and medication to finally get a handle on it. That is until Covid showed up. Now I am back to a low-grade hum constant in the background. It is a collective anxiety. We all are feeling it. Now is the chance for every person to know what it feels like to suffer from anxiety.

Of course, we all handle stress and anxiety differently. My C19 anxiety has me far less productive than I would hope to be. Facing quarantine, I had grand plans to read all the books, work eight hours a day and work out like a fiend. So far, the only thing I have been consistent with is working out. Thank you, Peloton!

All of this is a long-winded way of saying my blog has suffered. My last The Tea post was back in May. Wow! Time flies when you are worried about catching an invisible germ. But I am back. Rededicated and ready to spill The Tea!

Weekly Sales Spotlight

Anniversary Sale picks from Styledahlia midlife fashion blog

  • This week’s major sale is the Nordstrom  Anniversary Sale. Delayed because of Covid, Nordstrom changed up its sales tactics. They released a full preview to everyone early, and then based on your “status,” you were allowed to begin shopping on a given date. Mine was Aug 4th during the second tier.
  • I, for one, am a fan of the early online preview. The catalogs of the past just didn’t cut it. You had only a small idea of what would be available. This year we were allowed to see everything and build our wish list. I’m betting it worked well for Nordstrom as chatter about sold out items created a frenzy of purchases.
  • As always and maybe a bit more quickly this year, the best items began selling out immediately. But, there is definitely a ton of great stuff still available. I mean, how many coats does a SoCal girl really need?
  • The Zella Live In Leggings rival Lululemon’s. At less than $40 on sale, now is a great time to stock up.
  • Ugg blankets are amazing. The Ugg Whistler Throw and The Ugg Wade Throw are both still available. We have two of the Wade Throw blankets: one for home and one for the boat.
  • There is a ton of great Denim options left. I can’t help myself; I buy new jeans every year. The styles are fabulous too. Skinny jeans, as usual, are a fall staple to wear with knee-high boots, but there are a ton of great straight leg, boyfriend, and flare jeans available.
  • Stones have protective and healing powers, I genuinely believe. I often wear Onyx to ward off negative energy. One of my favorite bracelets is the gorjana Power Stone bracelet. It is available in a ton of different stones and both gold and silver options. These bracelets make great gifts. I stocked up!
  • I’m drooling over the Vince Henderson Weatherproof Booties in the Military green. If you are up for a higher heel yet still walkable, these are gorgeous! Treat the military green as a neutral and wear with all your favorite sale sweaters.

Things To Munch On

  • Am I the only one who got goosebumps watching Kamala Harris accept the nomination for Vice President? After a long time, I felt hope. Not only is it only the third time EVER (Can you believe?) that a woman has been on a major party ticket, but she is the first Black and Southeast Asian woman ever nominated. I genuinely believe the future is female. I’m Team Kamala! Don’t you love that her kids call her Momala. So sweet.

  • Are you a Twilight fan? Stephenie Meyer released a new book Midnight Sun covering the events from the first book from Edward’s perspective. My daughter already finished it and hopes Meyer will write more books from Edward’s point of view. I added it to my list. Reading is another thing that fell by the wayside during my quarantine anxiety.

  • I did read Before You Were Yours by Lisa Wingate and a few other good books so far, but I am now behind my usual pace. My Amazon Wish List is growing faster than I can shrink it. Speaking of Amazon, I have found so many fantastic items during quarantine that I am planning an Amazon post soon. Keep an eye out for it!
  • Regardless of your political affiliation, reducing funding for the USPS is a bad idea. So many people rely on the mail for their Social Security check, medication, and other home deliveries. Please consider writing your Senator and Congressperson to oppose any cuts to our mail service.
  • Our kids head back to school soon. Mine are both in high school. My daughter is a Senior and my son a Sophomore. They start school Monday but online. Our county is still on the CA Governor’s watch list, so we are required to start online. What an incredibly hard time for everyone. I feel sad for all of the freshmen who are unable to move into their dorms. I feel the worry of all the mom’s wondering how they are going to home school their elementary-age kids while working. There is fear even for those who can return to the school that those they love will get sick. Remember, we are all stressed. Teacher’s especially. Be kind to yourself. Be kind to others. We all could use more kindness in the world.
