The Tea 05.22.20 – Memorial Day Weekend

The Tea a Weekly Series News Happenings and Sales

Am I the only one who thinks we went from March to Memorial Day weekend in the blink of an eye? March was brutal, but lately, we have been cruising right along. School ends for my kids next Friday. Honestly, summer will feel about the same. Kids wake up at noon, eat the rest of the day and hang out in their rooms. I may not wake up at noon, but I am definitely eating all day long.

This year for Memorial Day, we are staying home. I imagine many people aren’t ready to hit the roads this weekend. There are a lot of mixed messages out there, and it is hard to know whether it is safe to go out or not. One thing that hasn’t changed is the Memorial Day sales. This weekend is a great time to shop for everything from beauty products to furniture. So without further ado, here is a list of the HOT sales this weekend.

Things to Munch On

  • I finally received my Gap order two months after ordering. Not sure what is going on with that. But if you read my post Best Non See-Through Tank Tops, you know I wanted to review the Gap tanks, but alas, they didn’t arrive on time. Well, I have to report the Modern Tank Top was worth the wait. I purchased a Medium because Gap runs large, and I likely could wear a small. But it is a nice quality non-ribbed tank top. For Memorial Day, Gap is offering 50% off everything bringing this tank to less than $10.
  • What are your thoughts on re-opening? The California governor just announced we can move to phase 2 opening. That means restaurants can offer limited seating, and malls can open. I am not sure about how I feel about that. I don’t see the difference now than when we needed to go into quarantine. In fact, with almost 100k people dead, we now know how dangerous this virus can be. For now, I am staying in and taking a wait see approach. What about you?
  • I’m riding my Peloton five days a week right now. It is my link to sanity and part of my routine. To be honest, I got the bike a year ago, and I was inconsistent riding it. I could always find an excuse to do it later. Later would never come because I would get busy. Now, all we’ve got is time. I decided to make workouts a priority, and I have found that working out at home is amazing. I can sing along with the songs and get on the bike looking any old kinda funky way. Today I took a 45 min ride with Robin, and I smiled the entire time and sang half the songs. I came off the bike feeling so good even though my calves were sore from the workout the day before.
  • There are a few things I have learned during quarantine, and I will incorporate into my life post quarantine. A major one is how to make good home-brewed iced tea. I am a tea-aholic! No coffee for me, just tea. My tea habit rivals any Starbucks coffee habit (though I prefer Coffee Bean Iced Tea). My husband, over the years, have given me all sorts of iced tea devices to encourage me to make it at home. But until now, I couldn’t make a robust and flavorful tea that satisfied my caffeine needs. The secret is a pinch of Baking Soda in the boiling water before using the tea bags. Who knew?
  • I also found the perfect ice machine, which is critical when you are an iced tea fiend. The GE Profile Opal Ice Maker makes great nugget ice. It is pricy, so I am asking for it as a birthday gift or anniversary gift. I have the HomeLabs Ice Maker currently, and that bad boy is working overtime. After constant use, he is beginning to make funny noises. I don’t think he was meant to handle my heavy ice load. ????
  • After my MIL got sick and died almost five years ago, we got out of the habit of cooking. I just didn’t want to spend time on things that didn’t bring me joy. During quarantine, we have been cooking a lot! I have to say it isn’t that bad. Though I am never going to love it, there are many things we can cook at home that taste better than anything we can order. I am also really grateful that my hubby helps with the cooking. I don’t have to do it every day, which would be draining to me.
  • So tell me, what have you discovered during quarantine? Any new hobbies? Great books? New skills?
  • And just let me tell you if you haven’t got on Tik Tok yet because you think it is only for kids, you need to do it now. I have learned so many things there, including how to properly cut an onion, how to get rid of those pesky little plant gnats and that the tin foil carton has two push tabs on the side to keep the roll from pulling out. Never stop learning, y’all. Get on Tik Tok now! I promise you will laugh too.
