I feel like I am finally hitting my stride with this “stay at home” order. The weeks are moving closer to a regular pace. The key for me is a good routine. If I get off my routine, I flounder. Currently, my practice includes waking up when my body is ready (you have to admit that is pretty nice!), work out at least five times a week (thank you Peloton!), shower, and get to work. Of course, there is a whole bunch of care for the kids, dogs, and hubby mixed in.
This morning my husband and son went down to our boat to clean it up. I can’t tell you how glorious the silence was during their absence. They are the two nosiest people in our house right now. Kent because he is working from home and on the phone All. The. Time! Cole plays online video games with his friends, so there is A LOT of yelling.
In my house, growing up, both my parents were always home. My dad retired when I was six, so he and my mom were always around. It may be my natural introvert nature or the fact the I was never alone, but I love the quiet of being home by myself.
I’ve learned over time that being alone is part of recharging my battery. Being an introvert is less about shyness and more about how you renew. I found the book Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking to be enlightening. If you or someone you love has labeled themselves an introvert, you will find this book fascinating and helpful in understanding their personality.
I also follow the Facebook group Introverts are Awesome. The group posts memes and other goodies, which remind me that my quirky personality is actually quite normal. Here are some of my recent favorites:

Things to Munch On
- I am so excited for Anderson Cooper. He just announced he had a baby via surrogate. His son Wyatt Morgan Cooper was born Monday. He named his son after his father, who died when he was ten years old. I’m not crying. You’re crying. Anderson is a famous introvert, and he is a perfect example of the introvert trait of “still waters run deep.” His empathy and compassion are evident on his show. It is one reason it is “must-see TV” in my household.
- Presidential candidate, Joe Biden went on Morning Joe this morning and personally denied allegations that he sexually assaulted Tara Reade during his Senate years. I am a firm supporter of the “Me Too” movement, but I question the truth of Ms. Reade’s account. This article explains why you should be skeptical too.
- Have you been watching John Krazinski and his Some Good News Network (SGN) YouTube Videos? Every week he, along with some of his famous friends, remind us what is right in the world. This week he will give the commencement address at a virtual high school graduation. I know so many seniors who are missing out on this right of passage. My heart breaks for them. Let John Krazinski add a little joy to their quarantine.
- I am a pretty frequent traveler. Long before Covid-19 became a thing, anyone who travels regularly will tell you it is much easier to get sick when traveling. You encounter new germs, and you are continually touching contaminated surfaces. It is one reason I always travel with Handy Wipes. Wipe stuff down y’all, especially when you get on the plane! This GIF on how germs spread on a plane should help you see why it is so important to take precautions. I cannot wait to travel again, but I know it will be a while.
- Happy May Day! Today many people celebrate the ancient festival of spring. May Day is popular in many European cultures with dancing, singing, and cake as part of the festivities. So put on your favorite tunes and dance around your house. Eat some cake or sweets in honor of spring.
“With the coming of spring, I am calm again.”
