The Tea a Weekly Series News Happenings and Sales

I’ve been in a funk lately. I am really struggling with my daughter’s recent POTS diagnosis and what that means for her future. On the other hand, she has tackled this challenge with extraordinary grace, humor, and courage. She is always an inspiration to me.

Shopping has always been a pick me up. When I felt a little blue, I would head to the mall and browse around the stores looking for new fabulous things. Of course, right now, aimlessly wandering around a mall is frivolous and unwise.

My daughter and I share a love of fashion. It is something I am very grateful for since my mother never understood my passion for clothes. We love to watch the red carpet, Met Gala, and everything else where fashion is on full display.

We each have our own unique sense of style. Of course, considering I am 51 and she is 18. However, there are definitely places where our style intersects. In this edition of The Tea, I thought it would be fun to share with you the items my 18-year-old daughter would gladly steal from my closet and maybe a couple I would borrow from her.

5 Items From My Closet My Daughter Wants

1. Dr. Marten’s Leona Boots

I’m a long time Dr. Marten fan. Last year, I fell in love with the chunkier sole of the Leona boot. Because black boots overrun my closet, I decided to pick them up in the fabulous Oxblood. The second I brought them home, Cami was all over them.

She has the classic Dr. Marten’s 460 Boot, but she too is drawn to the dramatic lug sole and the delicious color. Since she can easily steal mine for Xmas, she asked for the White Chelsea boots. They were impossible to find at the time. When I can finally get her a pair, they are definitely something I will borrow.

2. Free People Easy Street Tunic

In the photo above, you can see another item my daughter always wants to steal. She asked so often that I finally picked up the FP Easy Street Tunic in black and burgundy for her own closet. This tunic is crazy popular and available in a ton of colors. On the Free People website, they have 13 different colors available and several updated colors for 2021.

I wear this tunic with jeans or leggings. It is perfectly oversized yet cropped in length with a slouchy silhouette to keep it from looking totally frumpy. This is a great casual piece for any closet.

3. Anything Anine Bing

This is definitely not a shocker. Anine Bing is the ultra-hip Los Angeles based brand started by Danish model Nicolai Bing. Her clothes are everyday wardrobe essentials and investment pieces for modern women seeking a timeless yet rebellious approach to style.

I am pretty much obsessed with Anine Bing though not everything she makes is meant for my body type. I definitely love her t-shirts, sweatshirts, and blazers. It is no wonder my daughter covets her cool clothes. They are definitely not ‘teen budget’ friendly. For now, she will have to lust after them from afar.

4. Oversized Hoodie

I was actually inspired to buy this sweatshirt from my daughter’s closet which is full of oversized hoodies from Brandi Melville. I considered buying one for myself for a short time, and then I came to my senses and started looking for an oversized hoodie that I could wear.

On a whim, I ordered this The Kooples sweatshirt from Bloomingdale’s. I had no idea how utterly fabulous this hoodie would be. The fabric is thick structured terry, and the fit is perfectly huge! I often wear this around the house during the winter as it keeps me warm, and I can carry my phone in the front pouch, keeping my hands free for picking up stuff as I go.

Every time I wear this hoodie, my daughter asks for it. Every. Single. Time. It is a good one. Sadly, it is no longer available. I also have the ACNE Studios Farice Hoodie and The Zip Front Acne Studios Farice Hoodie that she loves. I’ve found the price really does play a factor in the quality of a hoodie. Hoodies can be expensive. However, a quality one will last you years. My, The Kooples hoodie is still going strong four years later.

Honestly, the Brandi Melville hoodies are a great option for the price. They are thick and comfortable, and perfectly oversized. Cami has several in her closet, and since she is stuck at home, she wears them often.

5. Bucket Hats

Bucket Hats hit the fashion sweat spot where no matter what your age, this hat will look good on you. These hats bring a hint of whimsy and fun to any outfit. Cami and I both love a good bucket hat. They are also functional, hiding a bad hair day and offering some protection from the sun. For Xmas, I got her an adorable sherpa bucket hat and another from one from the YouTube stars she follows.

Both of my hats below are from Shopbop. I am a sucker for all things camo. This is not a passion Cami and I share. The white with blue stripe hat is rag & bone. I consistently get compliments on this hat every time I wear it. The quality of rag & bone accessories is amazing. They are pricey but items that will last you a lifetime.

Of course, there are many additional items Cameron would gladly take from my closet, including my designer handbag collection or most of my shoes. I’ve always considered her when buying my handbags. Someday they will be hers. I am not overly sentimental about many things, but I am attached to several of my purses and much of my fine jewelry.

Watching Cami struggle has been incredibly awful. She is truly an amazing human being with such strength of character and an empathetic heart. My husband and I are determined to help her recover so she can live out her dreams. She has big ones.

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe said, “There are only two lasting bequests we can hope to give our children. One of these is roots, the other, wings.” Through this trying time, the roots of our family have grown stronger. Now we must find a way to heal her wings so that she may fly.
