One of fashion’s best inventions has to be the simple t-shirt dress. It is beyond comfortable and universally flattering. It is a must for travel because of its versatile nature. It packs beautifully and is easy to clean.  Last summer my family went to Italy and Paris and before leaving I picked up the best t-shirt dress. I just have to share it with you.

More Fashionable than a Muumuu but Just as Comfortable

THE GREAT Knotted T-shirt Dress is fabulous! Italy in June is hot! I wanted a dress that could keep me cool but meet the modesty requirements of many of the churches especially in Rome. I had been eyeing this dress for a while but I hesitated because of the price tag. After an exhaustive search, I realized this was the dress I wanted and I bit the bullet and bought it. The dress is worth every penny.

I wore this dress all over Italy and into Paris. I still pull it out all the time when the weather is hot. As I have gotten older, I enjoy not having tight things around my waist when I am warm. I now see the appeal of the muumuu, or the house dress that my mom used to wear back in the day. A good t-shirt dress is perfect for so many occasions including making a great bathing suit topper. The Knotted T-shirt Dress from THE GREAT has two side slits with one of them knotted hence the “knotted” in the name. The weight of the knot give the dress a nice drape.

If you aren’t familiar with THE GREAT let me get you acquainted. THE GREAT is the brain child of Emily Current and Merritt Elliott. If those names sound familiar, they should. They are the women behind the crazy popular denim brand Current/Elliott and the super successful collaboration with Pottery Barn on their Emily & Merritt home goods collection. These two women are power houses and they decided to do a full lifestyle collection which resulted in THE GREAT.

On their web site they state, “they want to create best friends for your closet”. Each piece has that comfortable quality that instantly puts you at ease. The items are a bit pricey but each item I have, is one of my favorites in my closet including this Boxy Crew Striped Tee.  They wash easily and look fabulous wear after wear.  There are a ton of great ways to wear this dress. THE GREAT Knotted T-shirt dress is pretty long. I am 5’9″ and it fits me perfectly. Even if this one is too pricey or too long, a t-shirt dress is a must have for any summer closet.  You can pick one up at any price point and in every possible length. I just picked up this Pam & Gela Striped T-Shirt Dress which is currently on sale at Nordstrom. It is a great shorter option.  You can tell I have a thing for stripes.
