Six Ways to Style a Plaid Blazer

Styling a Plaid Blazer

A plaid blazer is such a versatile piece. Seems like an oxymoron but it really isn’t. If styled properly, a plaid blazer can work as a neutral much like a camouflage does. It can be a perfect topper to an all black outfit. This winter, I decided to invest in a quality plaid blazer. The menswear trend is going strong and will continue into the spring. I cannot wait to wear my blazer with a trendy pair of biker shorts. (I honestly don’t know why I am so excited for the return of biker shorts. It is probably the elastic waist.) The key for me was picking a plaid print, that fit the existing colors already in my wardrobe. So, I started my search. The search for the perfect plaid blazer.

The Search for the Perfect Blazer

My epic adventure for the plaid blazer of my dreams is how I first came across Anine Bing. A brand that I love, love, love. But, that’s a tale for another time. I found the perfect blazer on Shopbop. The Anine Bing Madeline Blazer is exactly what I was looking for. The cut is slim and the shoulders do not have extreme shoulder pads which is a must when you are tall and already have broad shoulders. The plaid is black and white with subtle hint of red which can be played up or down depending on the look.

There are so many versatile ways to wear this blazer. You can dress it up or wear it casual. It is a perfect extra layer over a turtleneck sweater, worn over a LBD or your favorite workout wear. With all the ways to work this in to your existing wardrobe the cost per wear (CPW) will be down to dollars per wear.

Recommendation for Buying

I recommend investing in the best quality blazer you can afford. If you do, it can last you a lifetime. Also, try an avoid trendy details like extreme shoulder pads or big buttons. When buying plaid, make sure the plaid at the seams is lined up properly. Always buy a blazer with a good quality lining. Nothing gives away the quality of a blazer like cheap or badly sewn lining. You can never go wrong with a classic cut and a classic cut will never go out of style.
