Apparently, I am a Sucker for Camo! How about you?
Peruse my Insta @StyleDahlia and you will see I wear camo a lot! From Camo sweaters to camo pants, apparently, there isn’t a piece of camouflage that I don’t like. After a short reflection, I realized that camo is definitely perfect for my personality.
The Camo Personality
Currently, it is very on-trend (which I like to be) but it isn’t overly flashy (again me). It looks effortlessly put together (something I strive to be) and is totally multifunctional from dressed up to casual (I am nothing, if not practical). In many ways, camo is my wardrobe soulmate.
Do you love camo as much as I do? I think it works for so many of us. It is a perfect wardrobe anchor and can be styled in so many fabulous ways.

Top Tips for Styling Camo
Styling Tip #1: Camo is a Neutral so Wear Accordingly
Camo is a neutral which means you can wear it with almost anything. Wear it with solids, animal prints, and florals. The only rule is don’t wear head-to-toe camouflage unless you are adding an orange vest and going hunting. Ok! But really, please don’t hunt! In an effort for full disclosure, I am a pacifist but my boys are not. They hunt and fish. It just isn’t for me.
Stick to camos that are grounded in black or brown depending on what you wear most. Personally, I prefer camouflage with black and greens. I can easily add those pieces to my existing wardrobe of all black. Like the sweater below from J.Crew which I wear casually or as a topper for a black dress.
Don’t wear head-to-toe camouflage unless you are going hunting!

Style Tip #2: Pick Light Colored Camo for the Warmer Months
Camo can be too dark and heavy for spring and summer. Experiment with different camo prints like the pants I am wearing below. This pair’s lightest color is a subtle pink. Even when I wear a black & green-based camo in the summer, I look for stronger prints instead of muted camos.
Another way to wear camo in summer swap your denim shorts for a fabulous pair of camo shorts.
Style Tip #3: Swap Your Jeans for Camo Pants
The easiest way to add a bit of camouflage to your wardrobe is with a cute pair of camo pants. There are so many styles and camo prints available. They come in denim cut, cargo pants, joggers, and trousers. I even have a pair of sequin camo joggers.
Because camo is a neutral (see tip #1) you can easily wear camo pants as you would jeans. Pair them with all your favorite blouses, sweaters, and tees. Camo pants are a great lightweight alternative to denim in the warmer months.
When wearing camo pants keep your shoes simple. Avoid wearing tall boots to avoid a military uniform vibe.

Style Tip #4: Dress Camo Up for Date Night
You can easily dress up camouflage for a fun evening look. Here, I am wearing a pair of Joe Jeans camo pants with a The Great tee (This is a fun alternative) and a Gibson Knotch Collar Blazer for a night out with my hubby. We are dinner and a movie kinda date night people. But if you are more the go-to-the-bar kinda date night people, swap the tee for a silk camisole and add a pair of heels.
Style Tip #5: Faux Leather + Camo = Hot Look!
Try wearing your favorite camo pieces with faux leather leggings. I am wearing the Spanx Faux Leather Leggings. Mine are the older style but they have been recently updated to compete more directly with my favorite pair of faux leather leggings by Commando.
Both pairs are fabulous. I suggest you try both and decide which pair works best for you. I have and wear both for different looks. The Commando faux leather leggings have a more authentic leather look. I find them warmer than the Spanx.
Either way, I prefer wearing leggings with a top that covers my bum. Also, I pair my leather leggings with more conservative pieces to avoid looking too “bad Sandy”.
Leather pants are having a major moment right now. My favorite is the Agolde 90s Fitted Recycled Leather Pants.
Style Tip #6: Swap Your Utility Jacket for a Camo Sports Jacket
It is time to move your camo utility jackets to the back of the closet and store them for another day. Camo utility jackets are no longer on-trend (you can keep wearing your non-camo utility jackets). Believe me, this one hurt me too. But don’t worry they will come around again.
Instead, try an athleisure-inspired camo jacket like the Blanc Noir Skyfall Hooded Aviator Jacket. The jacquard fabric makes the camo print modern. The shine allows you to wear this jacket in so many ways including over jeans & a tee or your favorite little black dress.
Athletic wear is trending for spring. For those of us who don’t wear a lot of colors, a camo sports jacket is a great way to wear the trend with your existing pieces.
Time to store your camo utility jackets for another season.
