How To Style Camo Clothing
Apparently, I am a Sucker for Camo!
Blogging has been an eye-opening endeavor. When I started this blog, I decided I would show the good, the bad and the ugly. I am definitely all about being authentic. What I didn’t realize is that in a very short amount of time, I would realize, I am kinda obsessed with camo.
Peruse my Insta @StyleDahlia and you will see I wear camo a lot! From Camo sweaters to camo pants, apparently there isn’t a piece of camo that I don’t like. After short reflection, I realized that camo is definitely perfect for my personality. Currently, it is very on trend (which I like to be) but it isn’t overtly flashy (again me). It is looks effortlessly put together (something I strive to be) and is totally multifunctional from dressed up to casual (I am nothing, if not practical). In many ways, camo is my wardrobe soulmate.
Do you love camo as much as I do? I think it works for so many of us. It is a perfect wardrobe anchor and can be styled so many fabulous ways.

Styling Camo
Camo is a neutral which means you can wear it with almost anything. The only rule is don’t wear head to toe camouflage unless you are adding an orange vest and going hunting. Ok! But really, please don’t hunt! In effort for full disclosure, I am a pacifist but my boys are not. They hunt and fish. It just isn’t for me.
One of my favorite camo pieces from this last year is the J.Crew bomber style sweater below. It is the perfect weight for winter here in CA. Despite being a pretty warm sweater it isn’t bulky which makes it great for colder climates. Just add a coat over the top. Personally, I prefer camouflage with blacks and greens. I can easily add those pieces to my existing wardrobe of all black. I have worn this sweater with a black dress and boots for a fun evening out.
Every good rule is meant to be broken. Even though I prefer camouflage with blacks and green, I was drawn instantly to these light weight camo chinos from J.Crew. They are a light color camo with the lightest color being slightly pink. This more subdued pattern is perfect for spring and summer.
Camo Pants
The easiest way to add a bit of camouflage to your wardrobe is with a cute pair of camo pants. The first pair of camo pants are Hudson. I can’t tell you how long ago I bought them but I still wear them to this day. I love skinny jeans and to modernize the camo, I added an on trend pair of Sam Edelman white booties.
The middle pair of camouflage cargo pants are by Re/Done. They have a true army inspired vibe. I like cutting the hard edge of the pants with a softer top. Here, I am wearing a Madewell white sweater but I have also worn with black lace top. One of my favorite outfit combinations is hard edge/soft details.
Lastly, I am wearing a pair of light weight camouflage cargos by Sanctuary that I purchased at Bloomingdales. I love these pants so much for summer that I bought them in black and plain green as well. They are perfect for hot summer days when you prefer to have your legs covered.
Camouflage for Date Night
You can easily dress up camouflage for a fun evening look. Here, I am wearing a pair of Joe Jeans camo pants with a The Great tee (This is a oh! So cute alternative) and Caslon blazer for a night out with my hubby. We usually are dinner and a movie kinda date night people, more than go to the bar kinda date night people, but if you are the opposite you could easily add a silk camisole under this blazer and add a pair of heels.
Adventurous Camouflage
If you are more adventurous maybe a camo cardigan and leather look leggings are for you. The sweater is from Anthropologie and truth be told, a bit too warm for most winter days in CA. I loved it so much (justified it because I travel a lot) that I decided to keep this sweater. I am wearing with the well reviewed, like 5.5 stars by 2.6K people, well reviewed, Spanx Faux Leather Leggings. After yet another blog post raving about these leggings, I finally broke down and bought a pair for myself. They are pretty awesome. I can see myself wearing them for years to come. Though many recommend sizing up, I found my regular size medium fit best.
To avoid looking like an overstuffed Olivia Newton John, I wear these leggings with long sweaters. With other leggings, I might barely cover my bum but with these I feel full coverage is absolutely necessary.
