Bathing Suit Season Is Upon Us

At the rate this year is going, we will be in the middle of summer in the blink of an eye. Seriously, I am reeling that it is already mid-March. Spring break is around the corner and bathing suit season is upon us.

Bathing Suit Season when You Just Aren’t Ready

This year, I am heading into bathing suit season about 10 lbs. heavier than I like to be. Of course, I have excuses at nauseam for why that is, including a sidelining, Achilles Tendinitis which literally prevented me from doing cardio for almost 9 months, and a sweet tooth that somehow took over. The reality is that at almost 50 it is the first time I can’t basically eat what I want and just exercise to maintain my weight.

The fact is, if I am not actively dieting, I seem to be gaining weight. Of course, I am beyond frustrated. I have moments of peace with it but the reality is I am highly self-critical which doesn’t allow me to accept the weight gain as easily. I want to be all body-positive. My hats off to all who are. I truly admire you. I just can’t seem to do it for any length of time myself.

Every summer, I would look for this bikini or that, which hid my perceived imperfections.  I would worry about how I lounged on the boat. If my stomach had too big of a roll or if my back fat was spilling over my strap. A couple years ago, I decided to give up on the bikini and stick with a one-piece bathing suit. Like I said, I think you should rock a bikini regardless of size. But for me, I found a one-piece to be completely freeing.

Somehow in a one-piece, I no longer worried about the roll in my stomach and I could focus on enjoying my time in the sun. Of course, I still hope to be 10lbs lighter by summer but no matter what size, I will be rocking a sensational one-piece. There are so many fabulous one-piece bathing suits that are truly amazing and sexy!

Just Put on the Darn Bathing Suit!

On a side note, no matter what size, please, please, don’t give up wearing a bathing suit and enjoying all the sun and water have to offer. Some of my favorite family memories have been in a bathing suit including snorkeling all around the world from Fiji to Costa Rica, rope swinging and water skiing at Bass Lake and every summer hanging out on our boat in Catalina. Honestly, looking back I can’t tell you which trips I was heavier or lighter on (ok! I was really skinny in Costa Rica but I digress) but I can tell you what fun we had as a family.

Despite the torture of finding the perfect one, memories are made in swim suits.

Cover Up Picks

Even though I am willing to spend some cash on a good bathing suit, I usually avoid spending more than $150 on a cover-up. I like to replace my cover-up yearly and I usually just add bathing suits to my collection. If cared for, a good bathing suit can last you a long time. I also, tend to avoid see through cover-ups because for me they miss the point. I want to be covered up! Here are my picks of the best cover ups available under $150 this season.
