Feeling Pantone™ Blue

I’ve been feeling the blue lately, so when Pantone™ announced True Blue as the 2020 color of the year, I thought, Hells Yes! I wasn’t a fan of last year’s color – Coral. I have nothing against the color coral, but it just felt like a miss. It just didn’t seem to meet Pantone’s vision for choosing a color of the year,  “to capture what is taking place in our global culture at the moment in time.”

But Pantone True Blue feels spot-on for 2020. True Blue is Navy blue’s younger, prettier sister. Maybe it is my wish for a blue wave in 2020, which makes True Blue so hopeful, but it is definitely fresher than navy and more modern than last year’s coral.

Retailers are already onboard, offering pretty blue options in everything from lingerie to coats. Here is how to add a little True Blue to your wardrobe.

1. Blue Accents on Your Everday Pieces

Add a pop of blue like the unexpected blue in this grey leopard sweater. Blue accents are a perfect option for those who don’t want to go all-in on blue. The sweater is on sale at Athleta currently. I sized up for an oversized fit compared to the model.

2. Add a Blue Jacket

Add a pop of blue by adding a blue coat or jacket over your everyday look. A blue leather or suede jacket seems especially on-trend for 2020. My jacket is from Free People several seasons ago. I still pull it out all the time and wear over my all-black outfits and dresses.

3. Swap Your Black Sweater for Blue

We all get in a rut now and again. My rut includes black sweaters. Don’t get me wrong, I love black sweaters and always will but every once and a while it is good to mix it up. My issue with blue is that it often skews too preppy for my style. To make this J.Crew Cashmere Boyfriend Sweater edgier, I am wearing with snake print Dr. Marten’s but I think this outfit will look equally cool with these Paige Willa Booties.

4. Swap Your White Tee for Blue

T-Shirts are a significant part of my everyday wardrobe. I have a vast collection of tees, and I am always looking for good quality, not see through tees. If you are interested, you can check out my post on The Three White Tees You Need in Your Closet. One of those tees is my all-time favorite – The AG Jeans Henson Tee. I’m wearing it below. At $98, it is an expensive tee, but I think it is worth it. That being said, I usually pick up new colors on sale.  The scoop neck is universally flattering on all chest sizes, and these tees wash and wear well.

5. Swap Your Black Fancy Top For Blue

As I mentioned, I have been feeling all the blues recently. I decided last month to go with this blue lace top for the holidays instead of the traditional red. The blue is no less festive but is unexpected and an attention-getter. Plus, this top can be worn throughout the year for other events. I will wear again with black denim for a girl’s night out.

6. Add Blue Shoes

The quickest way to add some blue to your everyday style is to pick up some blue shoes. Shoes make a statement, and blue shoes will get you noticed. It doesn’t matter if you are a sneaker girl or a high heel girl, there are so many fabulous blue shoe options out there.
