Introducing Dressing Room Diaries
As you can imagine, I spend a lot of time at the mall mostly returning (that is for my hubby, shh!). I love to shop. Honestly, I get lots of outfit inspiration from visiting my favorite stores. So, I decided to start a monthly round-up of the items that caught my eye. I try them on and give you honest feedback on fit, styling and what ever else comes to mind. I hope to make it a monthly feature.
Keep in mind, the photos are just selfies. The lighting is always bad and I often have forgotten lipstick (or it has long sense worn off) but I can give you current product details and reviews of items currently in stores. So welcome to my first edition of Dressing Room Diaries. Please leave me a comment below and let me know what you think.
Today, I hit up three of my favorite stores: Anthropologie, Nordstrom and Madewell. Madewell is having a great sale! If you spend $100 get 20% off $100 or 30% off $200 with code SPEND2SAVE. Nordstrom is price matching many of the items from Madewell so they too are offering a discount.

Anthropologie
First up this darling outfit from Anthropologie. I love the mint color of these Pilcro High-Rise Cropped Flare Jeans. I tried them on in a 28 which is my usual size in Pilcro but I think I would like a looser fit. The definitely aren’t tight because of the perfect amount of stretch. I just prefer them to hang a little more. The pants come with a tie waist belt but over half of the pairs in store didn’t have the belt (Mmm). I prefer without the belt. They come in blue denim as well.
The top is the Getaway Ruffled Top and I am wearing a Medium. I am usually not a fan of ruffles at the shoulder on me because I consider myself to have broad shoulders. The ruffles on this top hit at just the right spot as not to add inches to your shoulder width. Throw on a cute pair of sandals and this is the perfect spring outfit.
Madewell
Next up! I stopped in Madewell and fell in love with this Eyelet Village Ruffle Sleeve Top which comes in a wonderful lavender too. Wearing a Large for reference. The pants are the Emmett Wide-Leg Crop Pants: Button Front Edition. I have on the 28 but they are definitely too tight. I find it better to size up in any button front pant to prevent the buttons from pulling.
Clearly today, I was drawn to the wide leg pants. I wanted to compare the Madewell version to the Anthropologie version. The mint color is TDF. I personally prefer the clean line of the Madewell Emmett Crop pair but I like the width of the bottom of the Anthro pair. I am wearing the 28 and I am torn whether or not to size up. The pants have a good bit of stretch and I feel like the 28 will be ok after a few hours of wear.
The top is the Floral Embroidered Butterfly Top in Medium. I love the square neck and the embroidered flowers. It is a perfect light and airy top for spring/summer. Wear it now with these trousers and in the summer with your favorite denim shorts.
Nordstrom
Next, I stopped in Nordstrom before running home for a quick lunch and off to pick up my daughter. Nordstrom is price matching items on sale at Madewell so I wanted to try on another size of the Madewell Wide-Leg Crop: Button Front Edition. This time I went up two sizes (30) to see how they look when over-sized. There still is some pulling at the widest part of my hip so I think if I were to get them, I would go with the size 29 which is in between the two sizes pictures of these pants.
The top is the Sanctuary Craft Sleeveless Top in this wonderful salmon color which is Pantone’s color of the year. It works perfectly with the moss green of the pants.
Somehow by the time I got to Nordstrom, I could no longer take a single handed selfie. Who knows, why. Maybe hunger. So please ignore the weird hands. I was so excited to share these jeans with you. They are new Madewell Curvy Style 90’s jeans but they are so new, I can’t find them on either Nordstrom’s or Madewell’s websites. I will send update when they finally show up. They are so good! They are the perfect over-sized mom jeans and the denim is light-weight and perfect for summer.
The top is Reformation Denim scoop neck top but it doesn’t appear to be available online. This one is similar but with shorter sleeves. I brought this top home with me. It is perfect for tucking into high-waisted pants or wearing under a blazer. I purchased this Gibson Notch Collar Cotton Blazer in black a couple weeks ago. I LOVE it! When I happened to find it in white today and I feel like I have to have it. It is the perfect versatile blazer for wearing over dresses or with your favorite denim.
I am on a ribbed knit top kick right now. I think they are perfect with wide leg or oversized denim. The cream button front top is Reformation Iris Top. I am wearing a large. I think the style is cute but I found it a bit see through. It comes in green and that would be much better. I found the large a bit too large but the medium too tight in the chest. It needs a bit more stretch to make me happy too. The striped shirt is the Free People Ahoy Striped Tee. It has a perfect amount of stretch and I love the nautical square collar but I found the sleeve a bit short for me. It works well with the Madewell wide leg pants and would look even better tucked in.
In the end, I went home with the Gibson white blazer and black Reformation top from Nordstrom. I also picked up the eyelet button front top from Madewell. Make sure to check out their sale. It ends tonight! Thanks for reading my first ever edition of Dressing Room Diaries. Next time, I will try and remember to wear a little lipstick so I don’t look like a zombie in the dreaded dressing room lighting. Check out my oversized jeans picks here. Bye, for now!
