Comfortable Glam for the Holidays

This fall, I have been drawn to all the fancy fashion: Sequin pants ☑️  Velvet everything ☑️ .  I am shopping for the year I wish we were having instead of the one we are stuck in. Truth be told, even in my normal life, I don’t often have the opportunity to wear sequins. However, I am determined to change that once the pandemic is over.

I am an introvert by nature, but I actually love dressing up and going out. Often, my lazy introvert side keeps me from planning all the things. It is likely this year has been easier on us introverts than many. Sure, I am comfortable at home but I realized I really like new experiences. As a result of this introspection, I am shopping as if.

Future Plans

When we are finally released, I plan to up my outings, especially to the theater and restaurants and share it all with friends. So shopping this year is like training. Training for the life I want. Holidays are about being hopeful, and with the vaccine on the horizon, it is time to dream about returning to normal. Of course, wearing a mask now will mean a quicker return to normal. Ya know, I had to say it. Wear a damn mask!

I have purchased several things for that future life I envision, including this amazing sequin duster. I mean. Who doesn’t want a life where a sequin duster is needed? I also picked up an amazing velvet blazer in two colors from J.Crew. In all the shopping, I stumbled upon the J.Crew Pull-on Peyton Pant in Velvet.

J.Crew Pull-on Velvet Pants

These velvet pants are the cross-over fancy loungewear pants of my dreams. They are perfect for this holiday season at home but can easily be worn out to your favorite restaurant or nightspot. They are so versatile you can easily wear them every day. I love an item that works hard for me, and these pants are up to the task.

Velvet Pull-on Pants 3 Ways

Outfit #1: Velvet Pants + Silk Top+ Heeled Boots

Can we take a minute and salute all the stores that offer inclusive sizing? Seriously. Whether you are petite, plus size, or tall (like me), it is refreshing to purchase items that actually fit. I ordered this same pair of pants last year when they weren’t offered in tall, and they didn’t work for me.

I wanted a pair long enough to cover tall shaft booties. This year they are offered in petite, regular and tall. The tall has a 28′ inseam, which works perfectly for my long legs.

I added a Vince silk blouse from years ago. I love a shirt with good details, and this shirt has a fun buckle sleeve. This Frame Shirred Sleeve Blouse has fabulous arm details. The Reformation Fawn Silk Blouse is another great option especially if you prefer not to tuck.

Outfit #2: Velvet Pants + Cashmere Turtleneck + Leopard Flats

The velvet pants work well with your favorite cashmere sweater. My turtleneck is the Delafine Cashmere Turtleneck by Equipment. It is an expensive item, but I believe for classic pieces, it is wise to invest in the best quality you can afford. Of course, I waited for one of Shopbop’s famous sales and snagged it then.

My flats are from J.Crew several years ago, but they offer a ton of fabulous leopard print options every year. I am finicky about my leopard, and J.Crew consistently nails the print. The sales at J.Crew are amazing right now. The Carolyn Skimmer in Leopard is under $50.

I can’t pass up this opportunity to tell you about my necklace. I received the Gorjana Parker Necklace from a friend for my recent birthday. It is by far my favorite thing right now. Gorjana offers charms to add to the necklace to personalize your necklace. I ordered the hamsa charm and the rose quartz. This necklace goes with absolutely everything. I reach for it All. The. Time!

Outfit #3: Velvet Pants + Graphic Tee + Blazer + Sneakers

The great thing about these pants is you can easily wear them casually. They are already crazy comfortable. So they lend themselves to everyday wear. I added the Anine Bing graphic tee. I am a huge fan of her clothes and especially her tees. The cotton is thick and structured.

I added a pair of Golden Goose sneakers, which are one of the most versatile pairs of sneakers in my closet. They literally go with everything. If you consider investing in a pair, I suggest a neutral motif such as this white/gold/silver pair. Recently I have been eyeing the Pure Star. They look so comfortable.

This outfit is perfect for lunch with the ladies, an afternoon tea break, or running any of your weekly errands. You could easily swap the structured blazer for your favorite leather jacket. Mine is the IRO Han Leather Jacket. You could also wear it with your favorite cropped hoodie for a fun play on high/low styling.

As I write this, San Diego is facing even more restrictions. It is likely we will be in total lockdown within the week. What I realized is I miss shopping, like going to the mall shopping. I am an expert at online shopping, but I find peace in browsing through the shops.

This week, I need to put in a little time and energy on stocking stuffers. I usually pick those up as I see them on one of my many trips to the mall.  Though I have a few things, I am woefully behind on this important part of holiday shopping.

When we finally return to normal, I am out the door, ready to experience new things. Of course, as an introvert, I will always return to the comfort of my home to recharge. My battery is pretty darn full right now. I need to get out there and drain it. This time at home has allowed me to extend my battery life.

Of course, there is always the possibility that I am who I am, and I may just end up wearing the sequin duster to lunch with my kids.
