Obsessed with Clogs (Again)!

I have a confession to make. I spent a good part of the early aughts in Dansko clogs. My go-to outfit for just about everything included bootcut jeans and a pair of Dansko clogs. They were the perfect comfortable shoe for chasing two active kids around. So when I felt the urge to add clogs back in my wardrobe, I figured it was better than an urge for another child, and I better give in to it.

Yes. Clogs are back and in a big way. There are so many options to choose from this time around, but the two most popular are clog mules and clog boots. Birkenstocks are also widely popular, but I hesitate to call them clogs. I won’t hesitate to wear them, though. I love my Birkenstock Shearling Lined Clogs.

Have you picked up a pair of clogs yet? They are a quick and easy update for your fall wardrobe. Let me show you how I a wearing mine.

Clog Outfit Ideas

Outfit #1: Clogs + T-shirt + Joggers + Denim Jacket

This outfit works perfectly for the ever-changing fall weather.  The mornings are cool now, but during the day, it still reaches the mid-70s. This week we will end up in the 80s. Anywhoo, joggers are perfect for the fall transition. I’m wearing the rag & bone Engineered Joggers, which I have in two different green colors. These pants remind me just a bit of my grandma’s pants back in the day with the elastic waistband in the back but the high waist and jeans detailing make them effortlessly cool and oh. So. Comfortable.

The clogs I am wearing are from J.Crew last season. I often spot trends early and then furiously shop for the item to find barely any styles available and then just a few seasons later find them literally everywhere. The great news is there are so many options out there right now. If you want a pair that will last you a lifetime consider the Dansko Berry Clog. I am eyeing them in black. The traditional style will outlast all the trendier versions. Plus, they have a memory foam cushion footbed meaning your feet will thank you. Plus, the Dansko clogs are the least loud if the clip-clop bothers you.

Outfit #2: Clogs + Sweater + Joggers

Add your favorite clog boots to a monochromatic look. I think an off-white look is fresh for fall. I’m a big fan of Sanctuary Joggers. I wish they were a bit longer, however. The inseam is on the short side for me.

You can build a monochromatic look with any color. The key is to pair different textures together. For example, I am wearing a knit sweater and corduroy joggers. White & cream also pair nicely together for a complimentary look.

Outfit #3: Clogs + T-shirt + Straight Leg Jeans

Clogs work well with another fall trend – straight-leg denim. Again, it doesn’t matter what wash you choose, but slightly faded black and dark blue washes are hot right now. Add your favorite t-shirt, short or long-sleeved, and you are ready to go. The clogs modernize this simple outfit and can take you from volunteering to a casual dinner.

I am wearing two of my most recent denim purchases. It doesn’t seem to matter how many pairs of jeans I own; I can always find a need for a new pair. No more skinny jeans (not happening), but a good excuse to buy a couple of new pairs of straight-leg jeans to “update” my wardrobe.

The blue pair are the Frame Le Garçon Straight Leg Jeans which are currently 40% off at Nordstrom if you can find your size. These jeans are actually mid-rise which I love. They are super stretchy and run big. I sized down two sizes. The black pair are the Agolde Lana High Rise Ankle Straight in my usual size. They fit nicely with minimal stretch, but I am on the fence if they are too short on me. I wish they were just an inch longer.

Outfit #4: Clogs + Jeans + Shacket

I wasn’t sure the shacket trend would last through this year. Anything so hot often burns out quickly. However, shackets are all kinds of practical. They work for those of us in warmer climates as the perfect topper to any outfit when it is cold. In colder climates, they work well under larger coats and jackets.

Add a shacket & clog boots to your favorite jeans. An updated shacket style for fall 2021 is a western-inspired print like this BB Dakota Big Sky Shirt Jacket. Shackets are a statement piece, so keep the rest of your look simple.

Outfit #5: Clogs + Dress

Clogs work great with most casual dresses, including a shirt dress or something flowy like this Free People Feeling Groovy Maxi Dress, which is so popular they keep bringing it back each season in different prints. For a bit of warmth and a slight edge, I added the Madewell Washed Leather Motorcycle Jacket, which is now available in five different colors, including a stunning forest green.

Do You Keep it Simple?

Are you more of a button-up shirt & jeans kind of woman? You can easily add a pair of clogs to update your “uniform.” This look works with skinny jeans too. If the only way you are giving up skinny jeans is pried from your cold dead arms. I haven’t given them up either, and I won’t be. So wear clogs with any of your favorite jeans. The clogs add some variety to your look.

Live is sure different than when my kids were little. The days of my Dansko clog outfits were non-stop. Little indulgences like a new pair of shoes were about all the self-care I got. Now the kids are grown, and I still appreciate a comfortable pair of shoes. In fact, it is all I wear—the days of suffering for fashion left with my kids’ naps. A good pair of clogs is definitely comfortable, and right now, they are very much on-trend. So consider picking up a pair for fall. Treat yourself to this little indulgence—your feet with thank you.
