Sales Spotlight
The sales spotlight is a little different this week. I decided to cover what I have actually purchased on sale in the last two weeks. As for my sales recommendation: don’t buy anything not on sale right now! It seems drastic, but it is true. As the holidays approach, pretty much anything you are considering will go on sale. In fact, many sales have already begun. And because this is a year like no other, I suggest if you find a good deal on what you are looking for, you go ahead and buy it. The chances your item will sell out are greater than the chance it will be further discounted.
Remember, retailers have had time to adjust inventory to meet this crazy year’s changes. So make your shopping lists early and get shopping. To that end, I will begin my Gift Guide coverage just after Halloween. So check back often. If you are interested in any particular gift guide, please drop me a DM or comment below. I always love hearing from you.
Shoes
- Lucky Brand Ellerey Boot – Sadly no longer available in white. Lug soles are HOT! this year. Zappos has a similar pair of White Lucky Brand Boots, but alas, they are not on sale. Still a reasonable price and worth a look.
- P448 Star Snake High Tops – I just ordered these to try. People swear by this brand for comfort and style. I am 100% a sneaker addict so it is kinda surprising I haven’t tried the P448 sooner. I guess I didn’t want to cheat on my beloved Golden Goose.
- Vince Cyder Flat – I’ve had my eye on these since the #Nsale. I purchased and then returned, and when they went on sale 50% off, I snatched them up again. The square toe is a modern update to a classic design. I purchased in tan & the grey suede. Somehow, I don’t have flats in either color.
- Adidas Swift Run Leopard – Ok. Technically these were not on sale when I bought them, but I couldn’t pass them up. I mean, they are just so yummy. The Adidas website has a huge sale right now, but the Leopard Swift Run shoes have already sold out. It is their Buy More, Save More sale – 20% off $99 or less, 25% off $100+, or 30% off $200+. Use code OCTSALE at checkout. Exclusions apply.
- Cole Haan Vania D’Orsay Pump – Cole Haan makes seriously comfortable shoes. I am hoping these heels are no exception. The styling is perfect with a 2.5″ heel (my absolute max) and popular D’Orsay cut. I haven’t updated my black pumps in a while, and with 40% off, I decided now was the time.
- J.Crew Suede Clogs – I picked these clogs up about a month ago. J.Crew has constant sales, so if these are not currently included in the sale, check back. Seriously, buy nothing at J.Crew except their cashmere if it is not on sale. It will go on sale eventually. I have mixed emotions about clogs. On the one hand, they are incredibly comfortable and stylish, but on the other hand, they are crazy loud. I save them for when I want to make a fashion statement.
Clothes
- J.Crew Vintage Straight Corduroy – I’m obsessed with corduroy this year. These pants remind me of my favorite pair from back in the day. Available in six colors, petite, classic, and tall, these cords will look great on anybody! I picked up the coal grey, and I can’t wait to wear them. The weather is slowly starting to cooperate.
- Vince Cable Mock Neck Merino Wool Blend Sweater – I am on the fence about this sweater. It is beautiful in person, but it has a strange musty smell to it. I plan to set it out to air out, and hopefully, the smell will go away. Luckily, with Nordstrom’s generous return policy, I can wait and give it time to lose the stink. Fingers crossed because it truly is a special sweater.
- Gibson Notch Collar Cotton Blend Blazer – I just picked up my third blazer on sale. This time I purchased the hot pink. I previously purchased the black and the white. The blazer has a great modern vibe with a low key notch collar and patterned lining that peaks out when you roll up the sleeves. The weight of the fabric is perfect for fall—such a great piece for the price.
- J.Crew Cropped Cardigan in Supersoft Yarn – Currently 50% off with code: FALLTIME. I purchased in olive first and went back and bought the black. If you need styling help for a cropped cardigan, check out my post, Grow Up Guide to Styling a Cropped Cardigan.
- ATM Cheetah Print Pull-On Pants – This is the year of the jogger. I added these elevated joggers to my wardrobe for the upcoming holiday season. So easy to wear with your favorite sweater, maybe the Cropped Cardigan or the Eileen Fisher.
- Eileen Fisher Funnel Neck Cropped Cardigan – What a versatile sweater! Wear it with your favorite joggers (see above), jeans, or over a dress for an instant style update. I purchased the Large/X-Large. The Small/Medium was just a bit short for me. Overall the wasn’t a huge difference in the two sizes. It is an oversized, boxy cut sweater.
Things to Munch On!
- There are 62 shopping days until Christmas. Can you believe it? I intended to be organized. But like everything this year, my good intentions were overtaken by stress-induced laziness.
- With all of the stress this year (elections, Covid & Christmas), it is important to take time for self-care. This is a reminder as the flight attendant instructs, “put your oxygen mask on first before helping others.” You cannot give what you do not have. I know many people believe self-care is indulgent, but it isn’t. It is a survivalist strategy. It doesn’t have to be something big like a spa day or a girls’ trip. Take time every day to do something just for yourself: enjoy a cup of tea, work out, read a magazine, or work in the garden. Whatever helps you recharge.
- What is Halloween going to look like in your community? We never get many trick or treaters at our house, but every year my dear friend Gloria builds a crazy, scary haunted house in her garage, and our family heads over to work it. I look forward to it every year. The kids absolutely love it, and I generally patrol the door and get to see all their excited faces. Many children return to tell me how they were so afraid, or not so afraid, and it is awesome! My husband is usually inside, scaring everyone. I am really going to miss it this year.
- Last month my phone died, and I upgraded to the iPhone 11. Fast forward, and now the iPhone 12 is available. You can check out the CNN Review of the iPhone 12 here. Are you planning on upgrading? The phones are getting so crazy expensive. I miss the days of automatic upgrades every two years.
- Kudos to Pope Francis for calling for legal recognition of same-sex civil unions. It is a step in the right direction. Love is Love! All people should have the right to be recognized for their family and relationship.
- If you follow me on Instagram, you know I am a huge fan of the street artist Banksy. He pops up at the exact right moment with a spot-on message disguised as street art. Check out this story of a man who takes a stolen Banksy piece to The Antique’s Roadshow in England.
I would love it if you followed me on Instagram for my everyday outfits or on Pinterest for my fashion inspiration. StyleDahlia is a fashion and lifestyle website with a modern take on midlife. We hope to inspire you to step out of your comfort zone, try new things, and live your life in full bloom.
