Puffer Jacket vs Puffer Jacket

A Pretty Floral Puffer Jacket

When I was in 4thgrade, I begged my mom for this brown & tan ski jacket. She finally relented and I wore that puffer everyday even in hot weather. I was obsessed. I think I have always been a bit fanatical about fashion. Recently, I purchased almost an identical jacket from Free People for my daughter. The Free People one is blue and tan but so similar, I began to wax nostalgic. I decided I needed a new puffer jacket in my life.

Fashion Rerun

However, if you wore a trend the first time around, likely you need to tweak that look to revisit the look a second or even third time around. What I mean is, say you rocked the ‘70’s bell-bottoms in the ‘70’s, then when they came back a few years ago, it is best not to go all in on an identical pair but buy a bootcut style or a wide leg version.  Just a tweak can make the recycled style feel fresh again.

With that in mind, I forgo buying the FP jacket for myself and focus on finding an updated version of the Puffer jacket that fits my Dahlia style. My daughter was immensely happy with that decision.  And as luck has it, I became equally obsessed with the idea of a floral puffer. It is fun to add a feminine touch to a sporty or edgy style. The contrast of sporty puffer and feminine floral just works. You could wear this puffer with sneakers or with boots.

Puffer for Dahlias

I found two contenders one at Anthropologie (my go-to for whimsical fashion) and one at LOFT.

Anthropologie Floral Puffer
The Anthro floral puffer is a soft, muted blue with blue flowers with touches of pink and green leaves. The jacket has a matte finish and elastic at the wrists for keeping wind out. I was completely surprised at the weight of the jacket. It is a tad bulky and extremely warm. It would be perfect for colder climates or aprés ski at a California ski resort but it just isn’t practical for everyday in our mild climate.

Loft Navy Blue Floral Puffer

This jacket has much richer tones. The blue is a dark navy and the florals are bold pinks, greens and white. The jacket is much lighter. It definitely cannot be worn in snowy weather without added layers but I think it is perfect for the mild California climate. I also think it would be perfect for spring weather in colder climates. It is not bulky and could be easily stuffed in a carryon for travel.

My Pick

Both jackets are on trend and fabulous. But, I decided to keep the Loft floral puffer. I think I will get more use out of it because of the light weight and packing ease. Sadly, the Anthro had to go back, but I highly recommend it for those of you already dealing with the cold weather. A little floral will remind you of the promise of spring even while dealing with the harsh reality of winter.
