Trench Coat = Power + Sophistication
When you think of a classic trench coat, what comes to mind? I think of a strong, powerful woman with a ton of sex appeal, a la Sophia Loren or Katherine Hepburn. With a trench coat, there is always a hint of, “I wonder what is under there?”
I have been obsessed with trench coats since Meryl Streep wore one in Kramer vs. Kramer standing in the park waving goodbye to her son (Kleenex, please). She again nailed the look with a white stunner in The Devil Wears Prada. Being from CA, trench coats aren’t really practical, and therefore, they have been something I coveted from afar, not really willing to spend my disposable income on an item I would only wear a few times. I would love a classic Burberry, but I just can’t justify the cost per wear.
Trench Coat Trend
Trench coats are having a major, moment! They are everywhere. So, I decided that this was the year, I am going to buy a trench coat. Who knew shopping for a trench coat would be so difficult? I want quality but not exorbitant cost, classic styling, and definitely no epaulets (I do not need my shoulders looking broader than they are). Preferably no added bulk and not too warm.

Everlane Trench
After an exhaustive search, I found the perfect coat: Everlane’s The Drape Trench Coat. If you aren’t familiar with Everlane, you definitely need to check them out. Everlane is a new kind of retailer which believes in exceptional quality, ethical factories, and radical transparency, which means they provide all the information about production and cost to the consumer. They also don’t mark up as much as traditional retailers, so you get exceptional clothes for exceptional value.
Their Drape Trench Coat is the perfect tan, the perfect length with the perfect styling. The quality is insane and you can’t beat the price. It fits a bit oversized which I love. You can easily wear it over a sweater. So, now I am ready for my Hollywood moment. Maybe not as Meryl in KvK but how about Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s?
