I stopped in Anthropologie to do some returns after order a lot, I mean a lot, at the Anthro Day sale. I also went a little overboard on trying different sizes of the slouchy trousers but that is a tale for another post. Anyway, I had no intention of shopping but Anthropologie has 100’s of new items for fall and once I found one, I had to try, then it kinda spiraled from there. So I decided it was time for another addition of dressing room diaries.
After a quick run through Madewell and Nordies, my two other DRD regular haunts, I wasn’t as impressed, as with the fall goodies at Anthropologie. I found the perfect holiday outfit and my favorite joggers in grey corduroy. For those of you not familiar with Dressing Room Diaries let me catch you up to speed.
I spend a lot of time at the mall as you can imagine but I primarily buy online. Every now and again, I feel compelled by the in-store selection to brave the lighting and air conditioning and try a few items on. When I do, I usually share my finds with you via DRD. So without further ado, here are all the outfits I found at Anthroplogie this week.

Six Fall Outfits from Anthropologie
1. Turtleneck Sweater + Plaid Leggings
Plaid is everywhere for fall. Last year, I picked up a fabulous pair of Sanctuary Brand leggings for the holidays. I love the fit and the quality is fantastic so when I saw these Sanctuary leggings in Finchley plaid I knew I had to try them on. The plaid is subtle red with blue and black. Because the plaid is dark, I opted for a light colored sweater. The Kimberly Turtleneck Sweater Tee has a pretty substantial neck. The neck is a bit overwhelming to me but if you like turtleneck sweaters this is a great option. I am wearing a medium. A mock neck is more my speed and this one from Stateside is a perfect alternative. I do like the fitted nature of this sweater. This outfit has a very Mary Tyler Moore vibe, that I love.
Anthropologie styled these leggings with a tan sweater and I like the look. I will definitely try wearing these leggings with a tan sweater this fall.
2. Black Sweater + Tan Plaid Pants
The Essential Plaid Trousers are only available online right now in a fabulous pink & grey plaid, houndstooth and a couple plain colors including black. I am sure they will be adding this simple tan & black pair soon. I love these pants and even though the model is wearing them at this length, I really feel they are about two inches too short. Lucky for us tall girls, Anthro is stocking some tall sizes online. I will definitely be ordering these in tall when I can. They are super flattering and warm enough for cool winter days. There are so many great trousers this year, I may just pack away all my jeans until spring. I’m wearing size 8.
I picked up a simple black sweater to add to the pants except this sweater isn’t so simple. It has a fun button detail at the v-neck. I am wearing a small for a more fitted look with the trousers. Honestly, I really don’t need one more black sweater but when looking online, I found this sweater in an amazing Sunrise Stripe that is really a fabulous psychedelic rainbow stripe. I love the idea of a traditional stripe sweater done in rainbow stripe. So fun! I am definitely picking it up in this color.
3. Pink Plaid + Corduroy Joggers
This outfit is 100% me. The second I tried it on, I knew it was coming home with me. I didn’t even wait for a sale. Do you do that? Try things on and calculate whether or not you can wait and pick them up on sale? Surely, these will eventually go on sale, but I love them so much I want to wear them now. The next outfit, I love too but I decided to buy it now for a different reason, I fear that both items will sell out before they go on sale.
Plaid is big and flannel is back. This super soft plaid shirt isn’t really flannel but has a flannel look without the extra warmth. The fabric is so crazy soft, I couldn’t pass this top up. The Isadora Button-Back Tunic, yes, it has a great button-back detail, comes in eight different patterns. The pink & red plaid is definitely on trend for the season. I opted for the large as I like my plaid shirts a little oversized. I could definitely go with a medium. The reviews state it runs large but I found it to run more TTS.
The pants are the Sanctuary Mia Corduroy Utility Pants. I have this same pair in summer weight cotton in both black and camo. I was definitely excited to find them first in cream corduroy and then in this “black” which is really more of dark grey or super soft black. These pants are so easy to style, I know I will wear the heck out of them. They are crazy comfortable and perfect for travel. I am wearing a Medium and I think the length is perfect for ankle boots, clogs or sneakers.
4. Black Top + Velvet Pants
The Augusta Ruffle Sleeve Pullover was hanging near the front of the store and the sleeves were literally fanning in the breeze. It immediately caught my attention. I am constantly looking for long sleeve date night tops because I am perpetually cold. My photo really doesn’t do it justice. Click the link above to get a better look at the sleeve details. They are amazing! This top will go great with jeans and boots or with fancy pants like I’m wearing below. I am wearing a medium.
The fancy pants (I just like saying fancy!) are the Essential Velvet Slim Trouser in Red. The red is amazing. I plan to wear this outfit for the holidays. Never too early to plan your holiday outfit! I was hesitant about the pant length. The length seems a bit short on me. My plan was to wear with booties. Then I checked online and was happily surprised to see the pants offered in tall. I immediately ordered. With a longer inseam, I will have more shoe options. Now I want them in the tall black. I’m wearing size 8.
5. White Top + Corduroy Pant
Fall is all about texture and print. If you aren’t big on print, a great way to add dimension to your outfit is to wear different types of textiles. The Angela Ruffled Pheasant Top has a Swiss Dot style embroidery pattern. The shirt is a-line but definitely not too voluminous. I am wearing a Medium and it is a tad snug in the chest but I definitely wouldn’t size up because it isn’t pulling. There is something about a white top that makes you look effortlessly stylish. This one is no exception. I am definitely picking this up when it goes on sale. Being cotton, this top is a year round option for those of us in milder climates.
I paired it with the Paige Hoxton High Rise Corduroy Pant. I have several pairs of Paige Hoxton and I think they aren’t super high rise and are incredibly comfortable including the white pair I recommended this spring. The color is the most fabulous wine which is hard to see in the photo. BTW – the dirty mirror is driving me crazy in these photos. Please just ignore it. The corduroy is a medium wale and super soft. I really wanted to keep these pants but I feel they are just a tad short for me.
A note on sizing – I am 5’9″ but mostly legs. A 28″ inseam is perfect on me for cropped pants but for winter I prefer a 29″ crop. The inseam on the tan trousers above is a 34.5″ which is too short for me. I prefer a 35.5″ or 36″ for long trousers. As an overall rule for trousers, I want the pant to float just above the ground with shoes on. To achieve that look, I hem if needed but won’t purchase slacks that are too short to work with most worn shoes. For me the length of an inseam can change a whole look. I am so thankful designers have finally realized we are not all one size fits all.
6. Tiered Tunic
I don’t know if it is my age or the complexity of my life but a “one and done” outfit is so appealing to me. For years, that meant a jumpsuit but recently I have been feeling all the feels for dresses. In fact, if you check out my Instagram you would never know, I am really a “pants only” kinda girl. Pants will forever be my go to but this year the dresses have lured me out of my comfort zone and have me excited to try something new.
This emerald green Amber Tiered Tunic is perfect for a warm Thanksgiving. Green is having a major fashion moment and this green is so rich and beautiful. This tunic also comes in two fun patterns but the green caught my eye. Both patterns are more casual looking than this plain green dress. The fabric is Viscose which has a little sheen and it drapes perfectly. I plan to wear with tall boots both black or brown. Add a big chunky sweater and tights as the weather turns colder and you can wear this all the way till spring.
Fun Sweatshirt – An Honorable Mention
I love an elevated sweatshirt. The Bailey Pullover is a fun take on a wardrobe essential. I am wearing with the Sanctuary Mia Corduroy Utility Pants from above and the whole outfit feels like pajamas. This is one outfit you wouldn’t need to change out of upon arriving home. Do you do that too? I always change into something more comfortable when I get home for the day. This outfit feels like that more comfortable outfit but still looks great. Add your favorite sneakers and off you go.
Fall is my favorite season because I honestly get giddy over the fashion. Anthropologie is killing it with wearable options in all the top trends. Look for my recent purchases featured on my Instagram and sale alerts for when my favorite items I haven’t yet purchased go on sale.
