Transition to Fall
September is all about transitions; the transition from summer to fall, the return to school from summer break and the transition to cooler temperatures ushering in the best season of fashion. Even as an adult, the return to routine from the lazy days of summer causes some excitement and some anxiety.
As a follower of fashion, I get excited by the transition to fall and the return to sweaters, boots and jackets. While summer is fabulous for so many reasons, the fashion is limited by the weather. This year’s fall fashions are crazy good! Major fall fashion trends include a ton of fabulous boots and booties. Animal print especially snake and crocodile leather items are hot for fall. Blazers continue to be having a major moment with every style imaginable available from your classic preppy plaid to the fabulous Anna Sui cropped blazer above. Denim trends are vast but the freshest style out there is the pleated or structured trouser style jeans.
Make Sure a Trend is Right for You
Of course, trends should not dictate what your wear but influence your style. Take what you like and leave the rest. As I mature, it is easier to spot trends that won’t work for me. I skipped the paper bag waist trend because my torso is more straight and the trend works best on women with a defined waist.
Every once in a while, even when I know it won’t work for me, I love a trend so much, I try and make it work. Any type of wide leg pants fit in this category. They look so fashionable but my legs are my thinnest part so if I hide them in wide legs, I just look bigger overall. Sometimes, I like a trend, know it won’t work well for me and find a fabulous alternative like the trousers below. When that happens I get so excited and I want to wear them everyday.
Before my blogging days, when I found something awesome, I would tell everyone I know about it. Now, I am sharing it with you all here on StyleDahlia. I get no less giddy to share what I have found with you than with my close friends. Fashion makes me happy!

Things I’m Loving Now
A Perfect Jacket
The Albany Reversible Sherpa Jacket
I picked up this jacket at Anthropologie during their Anthro days. The faux shearling trend is huge for fall/winter 2019. It will be months before I can actually wear it here in San Diego but I am hoping to bring it along on my trip to Chicago next month. It is a grown up version of the Teddy Bear jacket which was so popular last year. Shearling looks great with all the fall styles including floral print maxi dresses. |
A Little Black Dress
J.Crew Tiered Popover Dress
I never expected to like a babydoll dress until another blogger rocked this dress in stripe and I became intrigued and decided to pick it up in black. The dress is incredibly versatile and definitely on trend for fall. It looks great with all the latest shoe trends. To learn more, check out my Tall Girl’s Guide to a Babydoll Dress. |
Yes, Clogs!
Patricia Nash Clog Boots
Yes, you read that right. This is definitely the season of the clog. I have been obsessed with finding the perfect pair of clog boots and I finally found them. A perfect pair includes a reasonable clog heel and a shaft tall enough to wear with all the cropped jeans styles. The Dansko Maria came pretty close but the shaft was a bit short and the color wasn’t exactly right. |
Boho Blazer
Anna Sui Maribel Embroidered Blazer
Anna Sui is an American fashion icon. Her embroidered blazer features a subtle nod to animal print surrounded by fall colored embroidery. This classic cut jacket mirrors traditional styling with a bohemian flare. The jacket looks fare more expensive than it actually is and can easily be dressed up or worn casually. |
Fall Staple
Everlane Textured Cotton Crop Sweater
You know I am a huge fan of Everlane. A cropped button front sweater is a must for fall and Everlane created a perfect chunky knit version. I ordered in black but it comes in a cream and cider. Wear this sweater buttoned or unbuttoned over your favorite cropped flares. I love Everlane cotton sweaters because they don’t pill. They are easy to hand wash and air dry. |
The Perfect Pant
Anthropologie Slouched Trousers
If you are going to buy one single item to update your wardrobe for fall, these should be that item. They are so good, I will be dedicating an entire post on how to wear these pants. I love them so much I bought both colors. |
September Remembered
Of course September will be forever remembered for the tragedy of 9/11. This year marked 18 years since that horrible event. Everyone I know remembers exactly where they were when they heard the news. It is so hard to believe so much time has passed. It seems like yesterday and it is unbelievable that my kids are being raised in a post 9/11 world where they will never know what life was like before…
Even though my goal at StyleDahlia is to celebrate beauty in the world at times to recognize the beauty, we must acknowledge the darkness. I cannot let a September post go by without taking a moment to remind each of us to pray for the families who lost love ones that fateful day and to pray for the first responders who have suffered so much as a result of their bravery. My prayers go out to each and every one of them.
I would love it if you followed me on Instagram for my everyday outfits or on Pinterest for my fashion inspiration. StyleDahlia is for fashion-minded women in the prime of their life. We delight in the beauty of everyday and we hope you will join us on our journey. Happy Shopping Dahlias.
