Cute Top for Summer Styled Four Ways
Memorial Day weekend is upon us. It is the official kick-off of the summer season. Many celebrate with BBQ’s and other festive get togethers. It is also a time when we take a day and remember those service people who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. My personal belief is the best way to honor those who have died during their military service is to actively strive for peace. Hopefully, our politicians will make deployment decisions as if it is their son/daughter is who they are sending off to combat.

Memorial Day Weekend
Of course on this Memorial Day weekend, it was beautiful Friday but the rest of the weekend is a bust. With the kids home from school for an extra day, it is just a teaser of the summer to come. We are all ready for summer and we are hoping the weather will cooperate soon. What are your plans? Do you hang your flag? Visit a Veteran’s cemetery? Or watch the Memorial Day war movie marathon on TMC? My favorite war movie is 1955’s Mr. Roberts with Henry Fonda and James Cagney. Have you seen it? You can probably catch it this weekend.
Summer Travel
With summer firmly on the horizon, I am jonesing for vacation. Last summer, we took a big vacation to Europe but this year we are staying closer to home. We are headed to La Paz for a week and then a week in Catalina. We also spend one week in Little Rock every year for my daughter’s sports tournament. This year we have to go a second time in August. I know. Lucky me! The South in August.
My family loves to travel and my daughter and I are seasoned travelers. We travel a lot for her sport. Taekwondo has taken us around the world including Korea, China, Uruguay, Chile and Argentina. We have also travelled to almost all of the states in the US. We both love seeing how others live and exploring new cities.
With all this travel, you would think I would be an expert at packing and in some ways I am. But, I definitely have a tendency to overpack. So when I come across a cute top that can double duty and packs easily, I am all over it. I picked up this Scalloped Eyelet Wrap Top from Madewell on a whim in the store. Usually, I don’t pick eyelet pieces because my style is more edgy and I think of eyelet as more preppy. But, this top caught my eye and I tried it on. I am so glad I did. It is a flattering top and perfect for spring and summer.
Cute Eyelet Top
The Madewell top is so versatile that I am now an eyelet fan, especially in black. I love it so much, I recently picked up the Madewell Eyelet Village Ruffle Shirt too. Eyelet can definitely be preppy but paired with trendy pieces it can be easily dressed up or worn casual.
- First, I paired my eyelet top with my beloved rag & bone Dre Jeans. I picked this washed grey color up recently on sale at Nordstrom. I purchased my normal size but if you want a slimmer fit, I recommend sizing down. I am wearing with Frye Carson Ankle Zip sandals which I have had for a million years and still reach for over and over. Frye still makes them and they are on sale at Shopbop. Score!
- When summer finally arrives, I will definitely be wearing this top with shorts. To add an edge to this feminine top, I like adding a pair of distressed shorts. Mine are from Citizen of Humanity and I sized up to get a baggy, slouchy look. Add your favorite sneaker and this outfit is perfect for summer festivals or our San Diego County Fair. The fair starts next weekend and I always love to go and shop and eat all the food! Baggy shorts are essential when trying out the latest fried delicacy.
- This top is perfect for a summer evening out. You can dress it up so easily. I am wearing my Paige Hoxton white denim. They are one of my top white denim picks for the season. Sam Edelmen makes great shoes for the price. I am not a high heel girl but every now and then I want to switch things up. The Holmes sandal is so comfortable, I purchased in two colors. The heel is a perfect walkable height and they are on sale for only $84.
- An unexpected way to wear a wrap top is to wear it over your favorite body-con dress. It completely transforms the dress. When traveling, I love adding tops over basic dresses to change up the look. It is one easy way to get more outfits out of what you’ve packed. My bag is from Linjer which is a direct to consumer, minimalist, high-quality leather goods and watch company popular with celebrities. The Tulip Bag is one of their best sellers and regularly sells out within minutes of restocking.
Kimberly,
We have similar style…I could see myself wearing all of these outfits. I love versatile pieces like this, especially ones with a feminine touch. Very nicely styled!

Thanks you.
I adore eyelet and love this cute top. I love the way you styled it to create so many looks. I think my favorite look is with the grey jeans, probably because I love grey jeans. And I must say I would have never thought to style this top with shorts but you did it perfectly!
My rag & bone grey jeans are my favorite for summer. I keep wanting to pull them out and wear them. So comfortable.
What an awesome top! I have always LOVED eyelet. Your outfits are just perfect and so my style!
Thanks so much. xoxo
