Sneakers! Oh! How I love you! I am so grateful sneakers are mainstream fashion now just in time for my aging feet and back and pretty much everything else. Thanks to sneakers popularity, it means that us older women don’t have to look like old ladies wearing orthopedic shoes. Sneakers are downright fashionable these days, and I dare say cool.
Gone are the days of warning tourists to avoid sneakers in Europe. Fashionable women across the globe are wearing sneakers with everything from jeans to fancy dresses. I’ve been on the sneaker bandwagon since suffering from Plantar Fasciitis while training for a half marathon years ago. Once it healed, I was a sneaker devotee, and my addiction to sneakers began in earnest. I won’t even tell you how many pairs I own just in case my husband decides to read this post.
Men have long been on the sneaker game, but with women firmly devoted to sneakers now, the industry forecasts to grow from $62.5 billion in 2017 to $97.8 in 2024.¹ With such a big market, it makes it less outrageous to write an article about women’s sneaker trends than it was just twenty years ago.

Top Three Sneaker Trends
1. Plain White Sneakers
This year sneaker styles have returned to clean and classic styles. Think retro styles like the Adidas Stan Smith or classic Keds. Put your multi-color sneakers in the back of your closet and buy your favorite white pair. I just picked up these classic Reeboks for my daughter. They are seriously adorable.
Clean white sneakers look especially good with suiting, which is still popular this year and with the always fashionable summer dress. I’ve been wearing the heck out of my all-white Adidas Superstars. They are honestly, some of the most comfortable shoes in my closet. But, many of the styles this year are sporting a thinner sole. 2. High Top Sneakers
Lately, I have been feeling all the feels for high top sneakers. Fashionable women on Instagram have been sporting classic Converse high tops with their designer fashion and luxury bags, and they look so perfect. But I just can’t. Converse are too flat and just not comfortable on my feet.
Luckily, I happened upon the Paul Green Bronte while shopping in Nordstrom one day. Thanks to an internal wedge, a la Golden Goose, these high top sneakers are wonderfully comfortable. They are leather so that they won’t stain easily. I wasn’t sure I would like the slightly off-white color, but I kinda love it. Didn’t I warn you that you would be seeing a lot of these sneakers this season? Seriously, I really don’t want to take them off.
All styles of high top sneakers are popular this year, but I am sticking with clean lines and minimal design doubling up on the two trends. A minimalist design high top feels less clunky and overwhelming. Another trend that I am skipping is the wedge sneaker. They are back in a big way. When I was in Nordstrom the other day, more than half the sneakers were wedge high tops. I don’t need any added height, but if you do, there are a ton of cute styles to choose from right now. For me, sneakers are about comfort, and adding a heel means losing the comfort factor.

3. Tan Sneakers
Monochromatic dressing is trending right now, with tans playing a significant role. This may be why earth tone sneakers feel fresh and unexpected this year. It makes sense. We all have sneakers in the other basic colors: black, white, and maybe even grey. Now is the time to add a classic tan sneaker to your collection. All your favorite sneaker brands have weighed in on this trend, so finding a pair to fit your style should be simple.
I just ordered the Paul Green Carlita in biscuit. I am hoping they are as comfortable as the Bronte. They are back-ordered, but when I finally receive them, I will write a post on how I am styling tan sneakers. I’ve found tan sneakers to be pretty hot and selling fast, so if you find a pair you love snatch them up!
Though these three trends are hot right now, I am still a Golden Goose devotee and think that all Golden Goose sneakers make an outfit just a tad bit cooler! I’ve been eyeing the Camo Golden Goose for my collection. What sneakers are you buying for spring? Have you tried Golden Goose yet? Drop me a comment below. I would love to hear from you.
